So I almost lost the R tonight.
So not even a hour ago my paging remote for my alarm goes off. This thing has never gone off at home, especially in the middle of the night. I'm home alone tonight and have had very recent issues with a couple punk theives. I honestly thought it was a vandalism as I cautiously headed down the stairs to the front door. (Garage is still a mess from recent parties so the R is outside.) Now the alarm isnt going off, just the warning that the shock sensor is being triggered. I head outside and nothing. Doors are locked.
I go back inside. 5 minutes later, another warning, but this time I get like 3 in a row. One more time I go look. No one outside. I find the back door unlocked so I lock it and check the whole house. I've had issues with my alarm system and have wanted to pull it and replace it but just havnt had the time or money. I checked the doors but all are shut. I watch from my roommates room for a minute but all I can see over the garage is the spoiler and the power antenna that is broken and stuck up so I head back to my room.
Remote beeps again. Convinced nothing is wrong, I ignore it. A few minutes later I hear the car itself chirp, and 5 seconds later the remote warns me again. So I head downstairs convinced someone is at least messing with me if not attempting something. I look outside and I'm almost certain the car has moved. I head back upstairs to my roommates window and sure enough I can see the whole backend of the car! Now I head back downstairs and look out the window for movement, and notice that sure enough the car is at the end of the driveway. I head outside and still nothing. Looking for tampering with the locks, I dropped my arms to my side, drop my head, and give myself a little laugh. The e-brake was down. Ya, I'm pretty convinced it was me cause I have gotten out of the car before after gathering my things and the car has slowly rolled back as I got up out of the seat and I quickly grab the e-brake.
Rest assured the garage is a little messier now that I made room to pull her in.
Lol. So there's a laugh for ya.

Must have been a steep driveway if the R to roll down while the car is in gear.
Happened to me in my old car even with the ebrake up. Should have cocked the wheel a little.

What kind of alarm is it? Next time it does that and the alarm hits warning 2 to 3 times in a row put the key in the ignition and turn it on then off. This will reset the warning chirps so the alarm does not bypass it for the nuisance protection. This is on dei and compustar alarm systems and most high end units. It was the vibration from the car rolling back that warned you. Glad all was well.
Wow that was better than watching a Harry Potter movie... You had me going there for a sec! lol Sounds like my story but they really did take my R and while I was sleepin....

My neighbor put his AUTOMATIC Accord in the ditch like that once. He got distracted by his kid or something, and forgot to put it in park and set the e-brake. I went out an hour or so later, and his car is in the ditch across the street
I had to lift the hind end and push a bit to get him out, but just minor scuffs on the bumper. Damn was he embarrassed

I've had something like this happen to me before (not with the R). Ever since then I always make it a habit to leave it in gear when parking on a hill.
At least now you know your alarm is working as it should.
