Default Why are timing belt covers nessecary?

You saw the question no besides the obvious that it prevents any FOD from getting up and damaging the belt why is it so important I have heard a lot of rumors that dont make sense like it ***** up yur timing and your belt loses tension..

Are you serious

How big of a deal is it?

Am I going to go through timing belts like crazy if I dont have it on?

Can we clears things up so I can have a legit reason to spend time puttin ga piece of plastic over my belt

one reason, debris.

One 1/4" pebble will ruin your day without a cover.

But why take the chance? Only sounds like a lazy excuse to me not to put the timing belt cover on.

Not lazyness... it's just that I did'nt care. Besides that. I know lots of people who have run without covers for many years.

really? ive had my hood poped so many times back when i had the b7 and i never got poped for a timing belt cover ticket

i didnt run it when i had my crappy old d15b7 but now that i have a halfway decent motor i put it back on. the only reason for it to be off would be so that you could tune the adj cam gear, and u can just cut a small hole in the cover instead of comletly removing it.

seen debris go into engine without covers cut up timing belkts and seize gears. not fun for 10 min of extra work

OP: Just leave it on and save your engine's head and your extremeties from being FUBAR'D.

Paint it flat black or pink, neon blue or whatever other color you can think of for "bling" points. Anything that will be easy on your eyes and make you want to leave it on.

I see the problem, it says p13 on the water pump gear. It should say pr3.

I would run a cover but with a area cut out for the cam gear. So then you can adjust it atleast. If its stock leave it alone you dont want dirt and debris to get up in there
