!!!!need help with getting an alarm installed on my ek!!!!!
aight so i just moved here to hickory nc coming from philly, p.a..im trying to find a shop that would install a remote start alarm for my car, i went to this one shop and they said there is no way that they can be able to install one on my car because its a manual drive and that it was against the law for them to do that due to safety issues blah blah blah...but does anyone from this area know a shop that would install one for me with no problems...if so let me know aight..thanks
They may give you a hard time about putting a remote start on a manual, but there's no reason whatsoever for them not to install an alarm...
And by the way, unless you have a right hand drive Civic hatch, you don't have an EK.

It's an EK. Let's not overcomplicate things and get all ****. You name the whole class based on the alpha for that class.

Safety! Who the expletive cares about safety?! What panzies. Safety is for homos. I never even wear a seat belt. I never use the parking brake. That's for girls.

It's whatever the 4th, 5th & 6th letters of your VIN says it is...

No it's not.
There weren't any EK's in this country... I bet if the OP looks at his VIN, it'll say EJ...
How is calling a car by it's correct chassis code overcomplicating things?

Okay this is OT but let's go at it.
You can have around 5 different codes all for one chassis group. The very specific code that's in the VIN often DOES NOT MATTER because there is little difference between them. My car is an EG, yet the VIN says EH because it's LHD. If I'm trying to swap an automatic B series into my car, yes, it will matter. But if I'm installing some speakers, IT HAS NO BEARING. So should I go into an audio/security forum and refer to my car as an EH? People will think I'm canadian, eh.
1) It has no bearing. All the wire colors are the same. Speaker size is the same.
2) Even the members that are familiar with "EG" etc don't bother to learn every little code in that chassis class unless they themselves are avidly interested in it (I certainly am not)
3) fcm doesn't know the chassis codes. You want to shut yourself off even further from the guru himself?
Can you name any good reasons why we should be that specific? When does it even matter?
In a 92-95 Civic forum, I could see there being a small interest in calling your car an EH as opposed to an EG. There's a reasonable expectation that the people within that particular forum might know all the different codes. But outside that forum I think it's ridiculous. Someone comes in here with a question about a DB8. WTF is that? A spec for some product? A part number?!
The only chassis codes I know are EF, EG, EK, EM, DA, and DC. I can't even be bothered to learn the Prelude or Accord codes, let alone all the little codes within each of those chassis classes.
If it bothers your conscience, just think of it as a general class. EG covers all the 92-95's. A particular Civic within those years might be an EH which is a subclass of the EG. Whatev.
Why stop at just the 4th, 5th, and 6th? Why not just use the whole damn VIN? That will tell you ever little detail about the car. Every little option, where it was made... that info has just as much bearing in an audio/security forum as whether the car is the original japanese chassis or not.
Here is the reference fcm if you ever are interested to see it (years are for USDM).
EF 88-91 Civic
EG 92-95 Civic
EK 96-00 Civic
EM 00-05 Civic
DA 90-93 Integra
DC 94-01 Integra
If it's not one of those, I'll ask them wtf or I'll just ignore the question.
Explain to me how the OP could have been better served by referring to his vehicle as an EJ in this thread as opposed to referring to it as an EK. If you can't, then you might as well concede that using the very specific "EJ" would have been overcomplicating things.
Or not.

I wouldn't want you to have to change your screen name!! But I'd appreciate it if you didn't hound people in here..
Although I do find it VERY entertaining when you rip into someone when they deserve it.

OK, my turn...
First, thanks for the designation codes, they always get me lost, however it would be so much easier if OPs would just give us the MM&Y of car right off the get-go, it would save a lot of posts and re-posts, you know for us Canadians eh.
In fact, I think it should be a rule, no MM&Y, eh = no help, eh.
Second, I would hardly call a BTW your car is not a.... "hounding" people, but I do agree, with you that when B18C_EJ8 rips into somebody it is entertaining and will more often then not cracks me right up.
To the OP damnthatek9 I am sure none of us meant for you to get lost in the shuffle, us older farts can get **** about the littlest things, myself included.
Did you find a shop that would help you out?
