Default not getting power to stereo

Hey, first time posting here so go easy on me. I have a 98 civic ex and I've been trying to do my own work on it seeing that I don't have any money for some one else to do it. The stock head unit that it came with didn't have a cd deck so I decided to get a new one. My friend gave me one of his old ones which i hooks up and it worked for about ten minutes before losing power. so i got a cheap one for pep boys that i figured would do the trick. i have all the wires hooked up for that one right now and I am 100% positive that they are all hooked up right but i'm still not getting power. I checked the fuses and one was blown so i changed that out but now when i check the power cable with a meter it says there still is none. I tried to follow the power cable under the dash but it goes some where inside the body and i can't find it from there. any one know where i can find that cable under the hood? also would i be possible for my to just run a new one from the battery? how would i have to condition the power before it got to my head unit? thanks.

Default Re: not getting power to stereo (niCastro)

There are 2 fuses, fuse 47 - 7.5A, [hot at all times] in under hood fuse box, it is the constant power , [white/blue wire]
Fuse 28 - 10A, [hot in acc. and run] in under dash fuse box, it is the switched power, [yellow/red wire]

If the fuse on the aftermarket HU is bigger then 7.5A, you will need to get your constant power from someplace other then the stock radio harness, you can use the constant power free pin on the under dash fuse box or run a fused line directly from the batt.

What is the color of the wire that has no power, [stock radio harness]?
What size is the fuse on the HU?
Do you have power door locks?
