Jdm b16 fast?
im swapping out my d15b8 b.c its soo ******* slow but i was wondering how those JDM b16s are
my friend has one in his garage he was suppose to drop in but never got to
all i needs is tranny, and distributor he said he'd give it to me for $550
should i pick it up or just save up for a full GSR swap?
think the jdm b16 will be fast enough??
i want something fast

depends how fast u want to go and wat ur future up grades are. if ur plan is just to swap it in wit I/H/E and basics and call it a day then thats good. if you want to turbo stock den get it and turbo it with a tune. or u can get a jdm b20 for 300 and throw a vtec head on it. depends wat ur future plans are.. my cousin jus picked up a jdm b16 in a coupe and its just about the same as a reg. b16 no noticeable difference.
i wouldn't say "fast", because it's not. B series engines are overrated in my opinion, whether it's Jay Dee Emm or not it still won't be fast because it's a stock motor. Now granted I do have a JDM B16 so don't think i'm hatin on the B series or anything, there's just nothing special about them whether they're JDM or not.
It also has alot to do with what kind of car you're putting it in, whether it be a hatch, a coupe, or a sedan. I would say that they're pretty quick, the pick up pretty well in the higher RPM's, but a stock B16A is not "fast".
But to answer your question, scoop that B series up for that price, it'd be well worth it.

Thats your opinon...GSR is faster than a b16 but the b16 is not slow be any means. And what do you mean by "Fast"? 13sec? 14sec?

I wouldnt even waste my time buying a JDM engine and worry about BAR if you live in CA. Get your hands on a B18B1 with a B16/GSR transmission.
yea it'll be going in a CX EG very light only about 1800 lbs
i was planning on fully building the motor little by littles internals such as cams, pistons and rod etc
then after that boost it
after i put in cams, intake, headers, exhaust and all that good stuff it should be pretty quick

Bureau of Automotive Repair(Referee). This is where they will send you if you get rolled by the cops and ask to pop your hood only to find you have a smog illegal jdm motor. That is unless you want to spend the 100-200 to get it smogged everytime and worry about getting caught and sent to the Ref. If you do purchase a JDM/USDM motor, be sure that the motor is from the same year as your car is.(if you intend to go the legal route)
i have a stock b16 with intake header exhaust and a p30 ran a 15.0 at 1510 elev. not bad but its in a 92 cx hatchy. but they rev real well. but torque is nowhere to be found

Not as they stand stock. Emission laws in Japan are not what they are here. You can pass a JDM motor at BAR, but it does take extra work

a stock b16 should go mid-high 14's..if thats fast for you. its not fast for me but it will definitely be fun. i say go for it, if its that cheap. just MAKE SURE you get a b16 trans for it. any other trans besides an itr will make it a dog.
for example, my d16z6 which was probably making 15 less hp went 15.0 in the same car.

yah wen building a motor or swapping a motor.. u spend quite a lot of just little parts. wen u buy the motor its ur best interest to change the water pump, oil pump, and timing belt wit tensioner at that time, and maybe even oem replacement pistons and rings depending on how old the previously used ones are.
ooo
soo what should i do
pick up the jdm b16 with no distributor (just motor) for $550
get the LS NON vtec engine for $300 (just motor)
or
just save up for full gsr swap for $1200
which would be the best thing to do and easiest /cheapest and fastest also?
