Default SUPER GEAR LIGHT STAYS ON

I HAVE A 91 HONDA ACCORD LX, 175,000 MI. Recently the green super gear light stays on and it feels like it won't shift out of 2nd gear. For a while that light would come on then go off after i drove it for a few minute, but one day it just never went out. I am taking it to a garage, but i was hoping someone could give me an idea about whats wrong before i take it there and pay them to look at it. Please help!!! thanks

When I had my 90 EX I didn't know about sports mode which does hold the gear longer. I would hit the button by accident with my knee. If you turn the Sports mode off does the light go off? Also when I needed to have the speed sensor replaced the light would come on and it wouldn't shift in gear...

I'd check to make sure that it wasn't beeing turned on accidentally first.

Thank you so much for the reply. I checked that first thing, it's not on, i even tried turning it on and off to see if it would kick it out...no such luck

Mine stayed on due to my speedosensor being broken.

you have a trans fault code that needs to be diagnosed. search on that and it will tell you how to read these codes, very similar to reading obd1 engine fault codes.

thank you all so much for the advise, i have been finding out quite a bit about what you all have told me. lol, i know super gear wasn't the right word, don't know too much about cars as you can probably tell. Im just glad that my whole transmission isn't shot. Im not nearly as nervous about taking it to the shop now, and now that i have educated myself a little on the topic, i'll know if they r trying to rip me off or give me the run around....which happens often Thank you all so much, you guys r great!!
