Pulling apart a transmission... any tips.
Transmission is out and I am going to pull the housing to change out the diff.
Shift arm assembly, does it have to be removed before I can take the housing off?
I know I need to remove the reverse idle gear shaft bolt, the setting screws/ washers/ springs/ *****, and the backup light switch, but what else am I missing? I dont want to screw this up and make a mess for myself doing it all half ***.
Any other tips?

grab an accord service manual man there is no second guessing on one of these trannies...good luck comrade
it will be super easy from there on in...

just curious if I really did have to remove the shift assembly... I am lazy...
know any good tips because it (edit: shift assembly part) does not look very fun so far?

there should be a step by step disassembly for the shift assembly i know my prelude service manual has it...as you take things apart number each piece so when youre putting it back together it will be in a smooth reversable countdown
I was just curious if I had to remove the shift assembly (the stuff the shift linkage connects to) that is on the outside of the transmission housing???... but I know inside I will have to remove the shift forks and counter/ main shafts to get to the diff, correct?

ok so after talking to a few people, they said you dont have to bother removeing the shift assembly on the outside of the tranny.
just pull the reverse idle gear shaft bolt, the 2 setting screws/ washers/ springs/ *****, and the backup light switch, and I should be good to go (vss is already removed when I took it out of car). Then remove the end plug, release the snap ring on the counter shaft and it should come right off.
we shall see, thats what I am going to do tonight... then when I get the casing off I will remove the shift forks and whatnot. hopefully all resulting in getting to my stock diff for replacement with the lsd... if all goes well that is.
just wanted to update with my plan.

everything will go well man...just take your time and check every clearance if it doesnt seem right re do it over...good luck
yeah so you definately have to remove the shift assembly... case would open up just not come off... remove the assebmly and housing came right off.
btw this is a total pain in the ***... the shift forks, syncro rings, mainshaft, and countershaft all pretty much come out as 1 big mess.
got the diff. out and just need put new on in once I press on some bearings... then I get to try to put this mess back together.

I have a Teg and have to get to my differential as well. Once you get the housing off, by reading your post, the gears basically come off as an assembled piece? So, should be relatively easy once you get the housing off??
just make sure you label everything upon removal it can get sticky with all those parts...if youre organized and take your time you wont break a sweat...

yeah it should be the same for your teggy as well, basically... there are some minor differences. from what I discovered... once you get the housing off, you have to take the reverse shift fork out, the reverse idler gear/ shaft, then the shift forks/ countershaft/ mainshaft all come out together (be prepared to hold it all together for easily reassembly, these pieces are interlocked basically and its kinda a pita if it all gets seperated).

yes, did that... also to keep things clean, I dont want the tranny full of dirt or debris that an oil bolt picks up off the work bench or whatnot.
it is not really hard or anything, hell its not all that bad to do... just trying on your patience at times (which is something I did not really have after work).
