GSR in a EK
my roommate threw in a 98 OB2 B18C1 motor. he had a type r ecu...the shop said he couldnt put it in...but...correct me if i am wrong...i can use any B series ecu? he is running his stock SOHC Vtec ecu. what ecu he should get to run the full potential?
Unfortuantly with the GSR you must use its correct ECU, due to the fact that its manifold engages a set of butterflys that open up around 4400 ( i believe?) for increased airflow. Other B series ECU's arent made for this, therefore will not work correctly for the motor.
Its called the IAB i think, and its tuned toward making optimum HP #'s from low to high RPMs. Not using the correct ecu ( P72) will only hold the motor back from its stock specs.

Haha at least you remembered. Most ppl just go "wtf? butterflies?" lol.
That is why the GSR's manifold is shaped a bit differently compard to most B series manifolds.

i would just chip the p28. but make sure you ask for a gsr map.

As you can see, the GSR manifold is shapped differently than other B series manifolds, in this gif, the type R's manifold. </TD></TR></TABLE>
What is the diff. between the two?? like hp wise or like flow wise cause i thought i had a OBX intake but seeing this and looking a mine i see its and actual type r intake manifold, i notice in the pic u can see a blurry blue vin does this indicate its a type r or am i wrong cause mine had the same blue vin # its in between the two vacume lines on top of the intake

Doesn't matter because they aren't compatible.
Different head bolt pattern for the intake manifold.
