well, ... No matter what position the shifter is in, it's always in first ... after I changed out the tranny today, I thought everything was going to be cool, but again, it's still in first gear ... I can put the shifter in neutral and let off the clutch, and it being in "first", will stall out ...

You're sure everything is connected in the linkage?

I pretty sure ... linkage is attached at the tranny, both parts, torque bar and shifter link, spring pen is in the linkage attaching the tranny to the linkage ...

Have you checked the actual shift lever itself? Maybe the bolt fell out of the bottom.

I have a hunch it could just be your old shift lever it self. have you checked if anything could be blocking it at all? does it just feel as if it is stuck there? have a friend check underneath while you pull it in and out of gears to see if its all aligned up right and if the lever is just broken, i've honestly never heard of a problem like this.

Do you have a B-series swap and perhaps did not lengthen or shorten the linkage the right amount?

well ... I'm back after another day of turning up nothing ...

I am not running a b16 ... just a stock D15, FTW ...

I dropped the gearshift down and disconnected it from the car ... disassembled the whole thing and put it back together ... looks fine to me, everything in mechanical order, nothing to block it ... STILL, with the shifter in neutral, it Thinks it's in first ... I could drive off in neutral, 3rd gear, forth gear and reverse all work fine, while in those gears letting off the clutch, I will stall out like I'm supposed to ... STILL cannot get the shifter to unlock 2nd,5th ... when I put the shifter in first, the motor bogs down real heavy ... but letting off the clutch in first WON'T stall it out ... I'm still confused !! When I changed out the tranny, I DIDN'T take the clutch off the block ... is that maybe what it could be, or still the the shift rods ???? I really need my car to work, Im **** poor at the moment and can't get anywhere I need to go ... Class, work, nothing !!

When I put it in first, it's like theres no gear there ... Just slides right up in first, with a moderate amount of side 2 side play, and 2nd gear ? I can't get the gearbox to even recognize that theres a slot for second gear, same for 5th also ... I'm so frustrated and worried ... 3rd, 4th and R all seem to go into gear, sometimes giving me alot of hell to get them into gear ... sometimes not ...

can you get into all the gears while the engines not running?

at first said you got a new clutch, then later claimed you never took the clutch off the block when you changed trannys. Its possible that something with the clutch can be broken and not letting off when you hit the pedal, causing you to not be able to switch gears while running.

have you also tried adjusting the clutch cable

Try going into gears without pressing the clutch at all.

If it doesn't grind then you'll know it isn't even making it to the tranny...

If it does..you know it's working that far...

Probably not the most bright idea, but I just figured that would be a way to test one other thing.

I've seen lowered cars bottom out and bend shift linkages.. usually the result is not going into and/or not coming out of gear.. it may not be super obvious, but it might look are tore up..

if you need another d15 linkage, I've got one you can have for just shipping cost

ok ok ok ... little progress today ... dropped out the second tranny, and now the third tranny is in the car ... the linkages are hooked up, tranny on the block, and when I went through the gear shift motions, everything seems ok, wont know till morning when I throw the axles and blah blah blah back on ... I could access every gear !

Question though ... even though I can access all the gears, im a little worried is still going to do me wrong and still be stuck in a gear no matter what ... Any odds of that happening now that the shift box can actually access all the gears ?
