Default selling and shipping a car....

Frist off, to make this techincal, is ther anything you need to do to the car before you ship it?

Now on to the real question..

When someone buys your car off ebay or autotrader or whatever and requests that it be shipped to them, what is the best way to receive payment? Ceritified cashiers check?

And than when you goto ship it to them how does that work with the title? do you sign it over to the shipping company? or do you just mail the title to the new owner?

Im new to this and im trying to sell my car, but im hesitant to put it on ebay without knowing everything i possibly can.

i've always wondered about this myself..

i would think that you have to sign the title, and mail it the safest way possible.

and yeah i would assume the best way to receive a large amount of money is in the form of a certified cashiers check. anything else like western union, paypal, simple check would not cut it. A certified cashiers check would actually have to made out by the bank, which, in all cases proove to you that its not going to bounce and that the buyer actually has that money available or the bank has lent the buyer that money.

in the way of shipping.......I think there are small businesses all over the place who will ship your car. I've seen charges of anything from $800-$2000. not quite sure though.....

I've been reading alot about fraudulant cashiers checks, so is there a difference between a cashiers check, and a certified cashiers check? and if so, what is the difference?

EDIT: I did a little research and found http://www.bankersonline.com/o....html so from what i understand by this, unless they buyer and seller of the car have the same bank, than a certified cashiers check is required?

Cashiers checks can be easily forged, and the "certified" part can also be forged.

Cash is the only way to go. It'll be a pain to meet up with the person to swap cash for title, but you've got to do it or have a friend / relative who lives close to the other person do it on your behalf.

As far as shipping goes, let them worry about shipping - there are trailers you could put it in (check with U-Haul), or drive it to wherever.

Hey, do what you want. I'm just saying that counterfeit money orders and cashiers checks are very common, especially for bigger ticket items. The days of them being "as good as gold" are long gone.

Really? so if i sell it for 10k, they will transfer all that to my bank account? just like any other transfer from your paypal ballance?

EDIT: I just checkd my paypal account and it says that im already a premier or buisiness account. But wants me to verify my SSN: and some other number that will pop up on my credit card statement. Sound framilier?

Also the account is my moms, (well mine, but all her info..) so would i use her SSN or mine?

EDIT AGAIN: never mind, i confirmed using my SSN and the limit has been lifted! thanks for the info

So once the money comes through, you ship them the title, and than you just drop the car off at the shipping dock?
