do you have 5 1/4" or 6"s in your doors? both were available.
If you have 5 1/4" then go up to a 6" if you already have 6"s then your best bet is to keep the same size because there arent many 8" mids made anylonger. MB Quart used to make some but they were discontinued about 5 yrs ago. If you do find a good set of 8" mids you will need to drive them with an amp anyway.

A better suggestion would be to use the back speaker locations as sub enclosures and mount 8" subs there. get a good set of 6" components and a 4 channel amp to power everything.

Quart still has 8" midbasses. You have to pull strings to get them from them but it can be done.

Sorry no pix, but yes you can install over-sized 6.5" even 7" speakers in the stock location, or I should say behind the stock grills.
You will have to replace the plastic speaker housing with custom MDF housings, the is an extra .5" - .75" of depth behind stock housing and up to 1" of extra height.

I agree with the suggestion that you just replace with speakers that fit, there are some pretty good standard 6.5" speakers that are easy to install.

The one works very well in a small car like a CRX... http://www.eclipse-web.com/point/sp6500.html get a second set, install them in the rear, remove the tweeters. get a 4x75W RMS amp, and you will be pleasantly surprised at the SQ including bass response 94

Yes it would work, but they would sound like kaka.

When installing a speaker there are some basic rules you need to fallow to get full performance out of the speaker.

1- Speaker need to be mounted to a flat surface

2- Speaker needs an airtight seal all the way around it, for at least the diameter of the speaker, from the edge of the speaker, EG; if you have a 6.5" speaker then 6.5" from the outside edge of the speaker should be airtight.

3- The speaker needs to be mounted to a solid surface, or you will get cancellation "for every action there is an opposite and equal reaction"
If the surface that the speaker is mounted to can move, it will and you will waste a lot of power moving the whole speaker back and forth.

Also keep in mind, a properly installed smaller, less expensive speaker will always outperform a bigger and more expensive improperly installed speaker. 94

15cm = 5.9", probably a 5-1/4" speaker, do you have a model number?

The stock speaker is a standard 6.5", not to be confused with the newer over-sized 6.5"

The speaker that fits your car, [stock plastic mounts] uses a 5" mounting hole diameter and is just under 2" deep, as I mentioned you can get another 1/2"-3/4" of extra depth, even with the stock speaker mounts, by cutting a hole in the back of the mount big enough for the speakers magnet. 94

the quart 8"s are leftovers they arent in thier catalog anylonger. they were nice spkrs just not practical.

We sell JVC at my work and thier spkrs are pretty lousy, Id suggest what FCM said before JVCs eclipse makes good efficient 6.5"s
