hondas 'new and improved' MTF
Ive been searching around a lot tonight and found out the Honda's got a new MTF that is supposed to be comparable to the GM Synchromesh. Im trying to combat the infamous notchiness/3rd gear issue in my 05 rsx-s and was wondering if anybody has tried to get the transmission fluid changed under warranty? Ive also found out that from the factory a lot of our transmissions are overfilled and that may cause some of the issues that we are having. Open to any other thoughts, experiences, or opinions. Thanks
Been on the new stuff for about a month now. 3rd gear grind is gone, 3rd gear stiffness is reduced but still there. 2nd gear crunch in still there. I'll maybe try syncromesh next, but the new mtf is a lot better than the old mtf.
im trying to get it done under warranty. I already took my car in once because of the transmission issues and they said they "couldnt replicate the problem" so i just gave up on it. Why cant they just be cool and hook me up. Im sure they know that there is problems with the transmissions. ****'s always gotta play dumb n ****. My car is about to turn 40k and im trying to prevent any problems i may have in the future now before my warranty runs out. Of course theres always the option of paying 1500 bucks to extend my warranty to 99k.
1986...did you get it done at the dealership and if so was it under warranty or did you have to pay? If you did it yourself how many quarts did you use and did you flush and refill or just drain and refill. Sorry for all the questions lol.
2 1/2 quarts is what is supposed to be used. i used the crap out of my warrenty till i hit my 50k mark. I didn't flush it i just drained and refilled but i actually went to the honda dealership and bought some MTF. Dunno if it is the new shiot or old.

I done it on my own, forked out 60 dollars + fluid. But i have a friend who worked at the acura dealership, he said i could have gotten a free tranny fluid change cause they deal with lots of people complaining about that and they usually put gm syncromesh to hopefully "cure" the problems. Fluid change is cheaper for the dealership than replacing the whole tranny. My next fluid change i am gonna go try to get a free one at the dealership
I heard that RP is the worst for the k-series tranny...but don't know about it because I haven't tried it yet...But lots of peeps are saying that the new honda mtf is as good as gm synchro & amsoil synchro...I'm using amsoil right now and it did get rid of my 2nd gear grind, took away the notchy 1st gear while 3rd, 4th and 5th gear went in really well like a hot knife thru butter... keep in mind i have a 03 civic si...(5 gears only)...but once I change out the tranny fluid again, I'll try honda's...
i do mine once or twice a year. it's as easy as an oil change. just use a pump to get the fluid in. i've used the honda mtf and i'm using pennz/gm synchromesh now. i really can't tell the difference. 2nd gear crunch happens every once in awhile but i think new fluid makes the most difference. only costs 20 bux to do it yourself.
When I did my 5-lug conversion I replaced my MTF in my '02 Si.
Before I had an occasional 2nd gear grind like most EP owners; once I switched that all went away and now all my gears are as smooth as butter. I know its not an RSX; but thats my experience with the new stuff.

the new MTF was made at 1st for the 2006 accord v6 six speed because they were having a problem with their transmissions. we never sold it because mainly not many people buy the v6 accord six speed. i put 2 qts of the new mtf with 1qt of lucas oil and it works great.
ok,
But WHICH NEW MTF?
Nobody else knew about this problem at theHonda/Acura dealership, mechanics, service specialists, but i asked around..
Paul, The Parts Manager helped me, and told me this:
NEW MTF formula used in '06-'07s... Retroactive- works in All years EXCEPT 08's
NEWWEST MTF FORMULA! used only in '08s. NOT for use in older vehicles!
and in fact, its not even available to consumers here yet...
hope this clears it up for some of you...
