POPING NOISE!!!
It sounds to me like you are running really rich and that popping noise you are hearing is excess fuel being detonated in the exhaust system. However, lets get a second opinion.

you know what you could do....set the parking brake, chock the wheels and load up the engine. do it right now....gogogoog, and you need a helper also, dont stand in front of the car. what the engine movement and listen for noise. inspect engine mounts
i checked out the mount and i knly found one that looks kinda shot but not enough to make a sound like that but i could see it bring a bushing, ill have to check that out when its light out and not raining
well the point of this test is to get your engine to jerk in which ever direction to see how much engine movement there is. all that excessive engine movement leads to bad mount(s) causing clunks...
i hope its not your loose tranny mounts. I had a rear tranny mount get loose and crack the tranny housing and it did just that. It popped till it broke and i think i could have saved myself a headache if i just made sure to torque my bolts properly.

serious bearing failure in the transmission will also cause clunking. if the input shaft bearing fails, you get all kinds of strange noises.
check your mounts first. if none of them are bad.. then it *may* be trans rebuild time.
