Would wrong valve clearance cause misfire?
timing is dead on. Fuel is good, tps is good, map is good... also replaced tranny. anyone know what it could be?
Misfire only happens at 2nd gear at 25mph... Car cant be kept at 25mph steady throttle... CANT PASS SMOG, NEED THIS PROBLEM FIGURED OUT.

Sounds like you're unsure.
Check your distributor. Is it the way it's supposed to be?

sorry about that. the timing marks on the crank pully lines up when i check timing with the light...
i was thinking if the cam gear was installed one tooth off, could the timing marks on the crank pully still be straight on. i brought the car like this so i dont know whats up with the motor, it had a replacement engine.
when i changed the distributor, i didnt adjust timing or anything, just swapped it in. i drove the car and it didnt misfire, ran fine, until i brought it to the shop to adjust the timing to 16btdc and after i drove it, the car started misfiring in 2nd gear at 25mph.

Have you replaced the plugs at all? Or made sure they were tight? Mine was misfiring and having serious trouble at start up along with sputtering and it turns out my #4 plug was loose.
plugs are all fine.
car runs fine in 1st, 2nd misfires around 25mph steady throttle, 3rd and 4th is fine, 5th misfires around 60mph steady throttle.

i was thinking it was the cam gear off a tooth becase it ran fine and had some power when i put the distributor in, but after i went to the shop to put timing to 16btdc it had very less power and misfired.
butt dynos are not very accurate
Make sure that your arrows on your cam gears line up with your timing belt. i.e. TDC that your arrows point the way they should.
It could be a vacuum leak too. Make sure that there are no slight hissing noises. good luck

i just pulled off the valve cover, the camgear is off (counterclockwise) by one full tooth. Never did this before soo how hard is it to take the bolt off the crank pully and how tight should i tighten the timing belt when im done?
my friend just told me the cam gear was correct. i was looking at it at a wrong angle. anyways, he said it could be a vss because the spark is not advancing. could that be true?
everything i've changed so far.... tranny, ecu, sparkplugs, sparkplug wires, distributor, vss..
checked... map, tps, egr, fuel pressure, fuel volume, timing
