Oil changes and maintenance
So who's doing their oil changes by themselves?
I passed the 2000 km mark and the oil is still at 90%, do you guys changed it before the car told you to do it?
Another question, i looked up in the manual, cant seem to find when to change the timing belt
I dont like the new maintenance system...

You don't need to change the oil until the Oil Life shows 15%. That is when it is recommended. I've gone a little longer than that and it was ok. I don't tell people to change the oil religiously at 3K miles anymore. 5K-6K is an acceptable range if you ask me.
You won't find a timing belt because I'm pretty certain it's a chain.

Isn't the recommendation based on mileage/driving conditions and not the actual condition of the oil?
Regardless, I don't know of any vehicle with a 3,000mi recommended oil change interval.

Wow, so an on-board computer tells you the oil life left? What is that based on? Is there a sensor that senses how bad the oil is getting or is the car just calculating driving conditions such as throttle and mileage?
I think its a neat feature either way. Call me a stickler but I like having my oil changes done every 3,000 miles. It never fails.
Also, out of curiosity, I don't have one yet but what is the recommended oil weight and how much does an oem Honda oil filter cost?

I just did my first oil change this weekend. Had like 4890 or so KM on it, still showing 70% oil life... When i drained the oil, it was black and smelled old, so i dont know how much to trust the oil life meter. I think ill still be doing my oil changes every 5k.
And honda recommends 5w20 year round for the fit (Not like my other hondas, where you can go lighter if it was hotter) and i think the OEM filter is like 15 bucks? Not sure, i just put a quaker state filter on since it matched the quaker state oil (Only 5w20 oil i could find that wasnt a store brand or full synthetic), and it was 12 dollars i think.
Oh and buy an oil filter wrench if youre going to do it yourself. The splash guard makes pulling it off with your hands impossible, i had to get a big pair of pliers to pull mine down since i was too stupid to buy a new filter wrench when i knew mine was lost.
I really love the timing chain part, i wish all cars used one... I remember my old beater 92 sentra, thing had 260k kilometers on it, the timing chain still looked brand new. One less annoying, expensive/time consuming thing to worry about...
