A few questions...
Ok, so I bought Chris' (B16CRX's) wrecked crx for the b16. I'm planning on building a b20 bottom end for it over the course of the next year, but I'm afraid I not gonna be able to resist the temptation to put in the b16 now. Given that I'm going to be building a new bottom end, I'm thinking I won't bother to replace the oil pump/water pump/timing belt now - I'll do that when I put in the crvtec. Taking all this into account, here's some Q's
1) Anyone think that the above idea is bad? If so, why?
2) Which oil/water pumps should I go with? Will ITA pumps give any advantage? Will they work at all?
3) Will changing the water pump mean using a different timing belt?
4) Anyone know a good machine shop here in SoCal that could put the vtec oil squirters into the b20 block? How much money am I looking at to have this done?
5) With the wrecked rex, I've got rear LCA's that have the factory sway bar mounts. Anyone have experience with putting a sway bar on an ED4? I called Suspension Techniques & they thought it would be possible, but I've never talked to anyone with one installed.
6) I've got a friend who's willing to sell me his a'pexi vfac for $150. I'm definitely going to want this for the crvtec once it's done. Is it worth putting it in now? I've heard that vtec controllers can actually hurt your performance if they're not set up right with some dyno time. Anyone have any experience with this?
7) I want to replace the clutch & have the flywheel lightened before I drop the motor in - which clutch to go with? I'm thinking a cm stage 3 or an exedy - I want a clutch that's nice & tight, but still driveable in normal conditions. Is one of these better than the other for this? I'm also thinking that I'll have the flywheel lightened to around 12-13 lbs. (Remember, this is a street car, not a race car
) Anyone have a b series with a flywheel in that range? If so, how is it in traffic?
Ok, that's enought Q's for now...thanx.
Eric

1)no
2)dunno
3)I believe b20 uses ITR water pump as it is
4)There is plenty of so cal shops around just find one you can trust
5) Rear LCAs and swaybar.. Having my crx/sedan next to each other they look like theyll fit fine...
6)I say do it right and go Hondata
7) Friend has stock b20 with light fly and it revs to 6k in no time..CM stage 3 is around 250.. I believe exedy is around the same....

Since the B20 may take a while to build, I would at least do a timing belt/water pump. Like I said, my D16 was down for the count so the B16 had to go in ASAP about 2 months ahead of schedule. So the belt probably already has a few miles on it. Just better to be on the safe side.
I'm pretty sure all B series engines use the same oil pump. It is the oil pump gear that is different on some. Use an ITR gear, or Toda makes a nice one. Water pumps I don't know too much about but I would think whatever one is stock will be fine.
Like eraser said, lots of shops in SoCal can do squirters, just make sure its one you trust. Not sure what that would run. Although I have heard that they don't make enough difference for what it costs.
Give the sway a shot. I would think it should be able to work.
Without dyno time you won't be able to get much out of a vtec controller. But, they can be nice to have for making little adjustments. I would have to 2nd the Hondata though.
The clutchmasters stage 3 is good. Thats the one that will go in my next project. The clutchmasters lightweight flywheel is something to check out. I personally wouldn't want a lightened stock flywheel. Heard a few horror stories.
Whatever you do, good luck and have fun with it.
