Default D16y8?

Is it good to supercharge a d16y8 or save money and swap a gsr or type r?
Cause one of my friend's have a supercharged d16y8 and he's running 13.2 stock w/ 8 psi. He just have header and stage 2 clutch.

I don't really want to delve into why SC are a bad idea on small displacement motors.

You'll go faster for less money with a turbo. And get better mileage, less wear on your motor, etc.

it's 6 of one half dozen of another, if one route was so much better everyone would do it.

Do what fits your budget, personal preference, know-how, time, and get back to us.

what's your budget like? If you going to boost a a single cam, do it with a turbo. It'll feel different with either motor, but give us a little more info like budget, goals....

and the gsr and type-r motors are two totally differen't motors. They both say b18c but that doesn't make them similar applications. Very few people boot ITR motors because they're a higher compression motor.

Gsr motors are fantastic for boost. As is any other b motor with normal compression.

I want to get something straight first though. I'm assuming we not messing with any internals, right? Because this can totally change our answers. But either way, what ek guy forever just said is very true. The b18C5 is what, 11.0:1? So if you boosted that, you'd keep it at a very low psi. That being said, if you're boosting a stock D, you're not going to be using a very high psi either, SC or turbo. So...

How will you get more wear with a turbo? Isn't this a contradiction?

Mileage has nothing to do with boosting your engine. It's all about it's condition. There are LOTS of people here safely boosting 100k+ engines.

I didn't say it would get more wear with a turbo.

yeah, it is about condition. I was in contact with grant from turbo-kits.com and i was concerned with boosting a stock D16Y8, and he said not to worry too much. but still, a lot over 100k on a motor is still over 100k, i don't care if you took real good care of it. But that being said, a motor can still be abused. But grant said he had, i think an eg boosted at 6 or 8 psi and he had 130 or 40 thousand miles on his motor.

I miss typed, you said that there'd be less wear with a turbo.

From what I've read there is.

SC's run off of a belt, and thus cause parastitic drag on the engine.

Turbos function soley off exhaust gases.
