Acid rain & clear coat etching...
On my trunk and wing I have some light etching in my clear coat..my buddy across the st has the same thing on his hood on his truck. Both newer vehicles w/solid paint.
You can't feel it w/your finger..but can see it under direct sunlight and fluorescent light.
I was told to try distilled vinager but that didn't help @ all.
Any thoughts..what do I need to do...?
Thanks.

Thanks, but it's a little different..
Picture someone washing their car..and not drying it..then waxing over top of water spots...
Thats what it looks like..however no amount of rubbing gets them off...best I can tell it's almost etched into the clear...

Is it all over the place? Sounds like the same thing that bird crap does to a clear coat. If it's acid rain try wetsanding it with 2000 then buffing it. I did that on a 06 Subaru Forester and it came out. Can't hurt to try, but if that doesn't work you may need to refinish...but that'll be expensive.
Hit it with some rubbing compound and then wax. I'd recommend 3m and any sort of Meguiar's carnauba for the compound/ wax.

eyeyeyeyeyey. We had a dumbass come into our work with this problem. The detail shop (the guy is a tool) down at a dealership washed a car, and they use some crazy cleaner with acid. He didn't wash the car fully and when it dried it basically burned "water marks" into the clear. You cant see it straight on, only at a angle and its real faint. Exactly like a watermark but it wont come out. Your going to have to sand and buff the **** out of that clear to get it out. We tried everything, clay bar, all the polish/wax we had in the shop, sanding with 1500 wet then 3000 wet and buffing the **** out of it. Nothing really worked. Yours might not be as bad, but I think he let it set too much and prettymuch needs a overall to get rid.
I took a pic of my wing and circled the "problem areas" so you all can see what I am talking about..
On my trunk and wing..
Any help would be fantastico !!

Been there done that...

Question: When you used a PC on the paint what product did you use to polish?
If it was aggressive enough, it probably cannot be done without the use of a rotary buffer with the appropriate pad and compound/polish.
If that doesn't cut it, then wetsanding or feathersanding would be tried.
This may be removed, but if it's STILL visible, there's not much you can do but I can bet it will look better than when you started.
I've seen a Viper with a bird dropping etching that was so deep it could not be completely removed, even by my Meguiar's instructor.

All I had @ the time was some Meguirs Scratch X and some Turtle Wax Polish Compound...neither worked...
I have on order a 3 stage polish from autogeek.net. I use my orange cutting pad on my PC.
When it gets here, I will let everyone know how it does..

Well, I talked to my local detailer of 25 yrs...and he gave me a bottle of the stuff he uses...
IT did get the water spots out...but the dimples in the clear are still there..defintly a wet sand canidate..
Any ideas/comments on how to attempt that safely?

no he means you need a full repaint to fix that problem. Or you can wetsand the whole car down and have to deal with it being single stage with no clear...
