Default D16y8 difference?: obd2a vs. obd2b

I have a d16y8 from a 96-98 civic (obd2a) and i can't find any harnesses for the obd2a.

my question is: if i get a wiring harness for the obd2b (99-00) d16y8 will it work mostly?

i know i'll have to rewire the distributor. but will all the other plugs match up? injectors, alternator, all that stuff?

thanks in advance.

it doesn't matter what year engine you have, what year car is this going in??

OBD2A and B are not interchangeable if you have a 96-98 civic then you need a OBD2A harness

edit: read, this information has been covered immensely

i know about that, it's going in a 98 but i can get an obd2b to obd2a conversion harness.

i just need to know what i need to change on the engine side.

can i use a 99-00 distributor on the 96-98 engine? that way i could just plug the harness in.

but i still need to know if the dizzy is the only thing different on the 2 engines

first, answer these 2 questions, what year engine and what year car?

yes, the dizzy is the only major difference between these 2 engines.

conversion harnesses are used to swap different version OBD ecus, there not used for swapping engine harnesses

You just have to hate bad information. You can use either the 96-98 harness or the 99-00 harness. You just have to have the ECU that matches your harness, ie, 96-98 ECU with 96-98 harness.

Or, you could use a 96-98 harness with an OBD2a-OBD2b conversion harness and a 99-00 ECU.

You'll be good whatever way you go.

Edit: The dizzy plugs should be fine, nothing should need rewiring. The only thing different from OBD2A-OBD2B is the ECU plugs.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Your right, I hate bad information, which is why I HATE your post, please delete it and stop confusing people because you have no god damn clue what your saying

yeah shifty, the dizzys are different.

and yes the ECU side doesn't matter. i have a p28 so i can either get an obd2b-obd1 conversion harness for that or pickup a 99-00 ECU.

car- 98
engine-98
harness- 99-00

sell the 99-00 harness (IT WILL NOT WORK!!!!) you need a 96-98 OBD2A engine harness, plug and play and no dizzy plugs will need to be changed

(use whatever the hell ECU you want with a OBD2A--&gt;whatever the hell OBD you want conversion harness)

Doesnt the 99-00 Civics have a ecu plug that goes into the dash, unlike the 96's that all three plugs go thru firewall?

OBD2A has all the ecu plugs attached to the engine harness, 99-00 plug 'A' stays in the car (part of the dash harness)

they both have the "green" plug, OBD2A has more pins in the green plug because more ECU pinouts for 99-00 plug 'A' stays in the car

OBD2A has 2 driver side shock towers plugs, OBD2B has 1

now that I confused the hell out of all of you, LISTEN TO ME

Sicones is right, guedo. Car's year is the harness u need. What happened to the original harness out of your car? Just modify it for what plugs you need.

Nope cause your motor will not run right even if you rewire the distrubuter. My brother and I did the same to his civic. We had a d16y8 in a 97 civic hb dx and we used a 99 civic ex harness. We rewired the distrubutor and the o2 sensor, but the car still won't run right. Later, we bought a 97 civic ex engine harness from the recycling parts and ever since we had no peoblem, but we had to rewired the secondary o2 sensor cause the engine harness didn't have none.

Actually, you make perfect sense.

My mistake, I thought the only difference was at the ECU plugs.
