Default D16Y8 compatibility.

I'm looking for a D16Y8 (have found a couple now) but have been told that one ONLY from a '99-00 Civic will work since I have a '00, something about the '99-00 Y8's being incompatible with the '96-98's Y8. Is this true, be it because of wiring or any other technical reasons?

I know a few things gotta be changed if it's from a manual to an auto or vice versa but I have those grounds covered already.

The 99-00 Civic D16Y8 has the FIA system and runs on an OBD2b ECU, whereas the 96-98 Civic D16Y8 does not and runs on an OBD2a ECU. These are the only differences that I'm aware of.

Is that something that will complicate the swap or daily driving of the car? IIRC the motor I'm buying tomorrow is from a '96-98 Civic (just don't remember which) and I wanna know that it'll work without a hitch.

TTT for more insight. I've heard I'll need the harness and distributor from the other motor if I go pre-1999 as well as an intake manifold since the motor I'm buying is from a manual and mine is automatic.

Any insight on this anybody?

Any 96-00 D16y8 should work ( same engine )....The injectors look different but they are the same size ( 240cc ) and plug....You need to use the engine harness for your car ( 99-00 ) as well as the Distributor...Everything else should be plug and play.....The 99-00 Intake manifold has an extra vacuum nipple Right in between the injectors, thats for your FIA system. Be creative. Swap all the FIA and EVAP componets from your old motor..You should be fine......
