Default Tranny Install, I need help ASAP

I need some help with my tranny install. I have a 93 vtec and i am trying to install a m2y4 tranny into it. Thats the 5th gen base model transmission. My old tranny had a brutal second gear grind. So far i am at the point where the old transmission is out, the parts that needed to be swaped from the old tranny to the new one have been swapped on, but i can't seem to get the tranny to bolt up. I thought maybe they don't line up at all but i measured the casing and the bolt patterns on both trannys and they are exactly the same. What tricks have you guys used to get the transmissions back in your cars. I can't seem to line it up whatever i do and i am about to give up and just pay honda to install the transmission. Please help asap!

Also i have 2 friends helping me at the time but whenever we move the tranny around it will only line up either in the front or the rear mounts, never all of them at once. This makes no sense why its not bolting up easily.

with old tranny out match the two up to make sure they are perfectly matched!

(rule of thumb is to try to put it back the way it came out)

I can't see there being any problems if they are identical trannies.

do you have pics of your attempt at fitment?..it would help if we could all see the trouble your having??

Ok i figured everything out. its was such a pain in the ***. I honestly never want to do that ever again hahaha. Its not hard at all, its just a big ******* hassle and i would have preferred to have paid the 1000 dollars to have it installed with the new clutch and flywheel.

Its exactly like the write up here says. Its worth the knowledge that i gained about my car but totally never worth it to do it again lol

I'll be posting pictures of my cars build when its all finished.

lol good job man, I did my clutch/flywheel myself in my garage, w/ only jackstands and the most basic of tools. I agree I would definately pay someone to do it for me if the situation ever arose again!

this is when a tranny jack becomes very helpful.

You have to make sure that everything is aligned correctly to the flywheel pilot bearing. You should be using the alignment tool that came with the kit in order to achieve this.

Lift up the tranny as straight as possible and slide the main shaft through the clutch and into the pilot bearing. once you have it close, put the top tranny bolts through. This will stabilize the tranny while you maneuver it around to get the main shaft to go through.

I hope your strong, 80 lbs is alot to pick up, lol.

I just installed a new clutch, flywheel, and axles on a 4th gen the last weekend and it was no fun. To get the transmission in, we had to floor jacks under the transmission. One to raise and lower it and the other to rotate it. We also had a wood rod on a jack stand to pivot the transmission back and forth too. You just kind of have to make do with what you have. A couple people also help too.

yah i had 3 friends and me underneath it lol. The alignment tool is a given i hope..... hahaha for those who forgot i feel sorry for you. I recommend a helms like i already mentioned. rotating the tranny so the rear bolts line up was the biggest pain in the ***.

I've pulled too many transmissions than I care to remember.

We were able to get DR's trans out in less than 1.5 hours this past weekend.

hahaha nice. It took about 15 hours total i would say becasue to much smoking and talking and drinking took place. It was also spread over 7 days. I think i could do it in about 5 hours for sure. its really not hard, just lining it up is the bitch.

Also a funny side note, i left my old transmission outside my garage and called a aluminum recycler. they said they would pay .50c a pound for my tranny so a good 40 bucks (tank of gas....almost) When i went to go get my transmission to take it to the recyclers it was gone. Crack heads stole all my aluminum parts including a blown up radiator. they beat me too it!!!! they left all the small parts that would be hard to carry and i know my garbage service did not take it becasue they don't take that stuff.
