Default Thermal arc users - smaller torch?

my torch is getting a bit beat and id prefer something thats not as bulky as the stock #17 torch. i went to the local welding supply place and they couldnt really help me and/or didnt know what will work (probably because they push lincoln crap). any places that sell something a bit smaller that works with the thermal arc TSW185 thats not watercooled of course?

thanks

GTAW torches are fairly interchangeable, I think a #9 is a smaller air cooled that you could pick up.

thermal arc has a different connection at the welder. torches that fit miller/lincoln units wont fit the TA.

I ordered a CK9F flex head torch from http://www.tigdepot.com for my TA185. It works quite nicely, but unfortunately tigdepot appearas to be out of business.

what amps are you welding at? the 9 torch is equavalant to my 20 but air cooled version. for air cooled i wouldnt go smaller then a 9.

even tho its rated at 125amps. i image it would be pretty toasty after a few minutes of use. the CK 17 torch that the TA185 comes with is rated at 150 and that thign was scorching especially when welding aluminum.

and for connecting it to a TA185 you will need the type that has side hose, not flow thru like lincoln and miller uses.

...you can use flow thru style but you have to buy a dinse adaptor. like this one.

Corey the welding supply up here has all the CK and Weldcraft stuff and carries the tiny stuff. You just have to make sure you get the split style hose connection.

yeah i only time i usually go over 125 on steel is head flange welds. and the torch def. gets hot hot hot. aluminum is even worse. id rather take more breaks for cool down and use a smaller more confortable torch. thanks for the link, if i cant find a bolt up torch ill pick that up.

CK is the brand. It's a CK9F flex head. I like it alot, but on higher amperage stuff, it does tend to get quite warm. IIRC, all you have to do is the get the split connection, where one is the dinse (sp?) power connector and the other is the gas connector. On the Millers and Lincolns I have seen, they have a gas through dinse, so it's a single power and gas connection, where the TA185 is split.

That's the one! Thanks! It didn't come up when I searched for some reason. The new web site doesn't have as many items or as much detail as the old one. I wonder why they changed...
