cheapest way to go fast is to boost a ls. about 500-800 dollars for a complete ls swap, and piece a turbo for about 600-1000 then tune and your be good for now.
what motor do u have now?
best thing to do, get ur self some headbolts and what not, prepare ur motor for turbo and the boost the **** out of it!! dont be cheap on the tune though..

true cheaper for an ls swap but you will need to install new timing belt, water pump, spark plug/wire, dizzy, etc.. which will run you more $$ I'm not even including the price of replacing all fluids..

You're kidding, turbo is the cheapest way to go fast and is exponentially quicker pre dollar spent when compared to going all motor.
b18b turbo gets my vote. The one I helped with we did a junkyard turbo for about $800 with the tune and ran 12's that next week. In a 96 hatch.
