Convincing an owner to sell their R???
I know convincing someone to sell their Type R isn't easy. I just so happen to know there is a 98 Type R within about 2 miles from me that has been babied and garaged its whole life. I find out about it back in 2001 when a friend was helping me put coilovers on a car I had and he said his neighbor down the street has a cheery 98 R. I hadn't thought about it much in the last few years but with my grown interest in the cars I thought I might pursue it. Back in 2001 I heard he wouldn't sell it...maybe he would now? I believe it to have under 30k miles on it. Other than that I know very little. Only know where its at...don't even know the owner. I have a 98 R brochure and I thought I could go over there and start conversating with him...maybe offering to give him the brochure if he let me see the car. ANYWAYS......HOW WOULD YOU GO UP TO SOMEONE WITH A TYPE R KNOWING YOU WANT IT BUT THEY DON'T WANT TO SELL IT? Its so damn close...I MUST try!

Good point, remember everything has a price.

Uh, if you want one bad enough to go harass some guy (who you dont even know) about selling a car thats not for sale....why the hell dont you just buy one of the many that are currently FOR sale?
Personally, if someone came to my house asking me about the R, I would pretty much assume they were scoping me out for a theft, or trying to get a joyride, etc.

I only really like 97s and 98s and you don't see that many for sale. Most are junk and or FAR away. This is MAYBE 2 miles from me if that. He may be a dumby thinking KBB price is good enough for him. Worth a shot! Need to sell my Galant VR4 first to have enough money.
Bah...found out today. Car has around 13k miles...stock. Guy has an S2k, 2 new accords and the R. I guess he won't sell it....even offers of 20k will probaby be shyed away. Why do people have to collecdt these damn cars and not enjoy them!

People enjoy things in different ways. You should be happy he's "protecting" it by not wanting to sell it. Maybe that is the R that will out live all of ours and become some historical tribute to "all that was R" some day, haha.
Easy solution though - hunt down another clean R, buy it, and maybe go back to that guy and talk cars, ha. That's what I'd do.
