Default Getting rid of rasp (searched)

Just got my exhaust done, and I have a little rasp noise problem. I searched, but most of the threads I found were ppl that did not have/want a cat. Some say cherry bomb/ regular resonator/ glasspack/ ect.

I do have a cat (new magnaflow), and I have a dynomax super turbo muffler and shop bent 2.25 piping. What do you recommend to get rid of the rasp? 14 inch cherry bomb on ebay? ?

Your problem is with the muffler.

Go get a magnaflow resignator added. I use these on all my cars and it will take care of the rasp. Your car will also be way quieter and the sound will be deeper.

why do you say the muffler is the problem? I got this one specifically because I have heard good things about it on this forum. It sounds great when it is not rasping.

thanks for the tip on the magnaflow. I have see pictures of it. it is as big as a muffler. will it fit behind the cat?

Find a nice straight section of pipe in your exhaust. Then buy a resonator that is the same diameter as your pipe. Cut out the section of pipe (the same length as the resonator). Then get 4 muffler clamps and a couple couplers from autozone and bolt the bitch in.

That's the easiest way to do it if you can't weld. If you can, just weld a resonator in and be done.

ok, so the guys at pep boys scared me outta putting a cherry bomb on. they all said it will make it worse. they said that it will just make it louder. the guy at the muffler shop said that he has oe style 2.25 resonators. will that work just as well?

Yes. I had a shop install an 18" resonator and it made it sound stock. Replaced it with a 12" and sounds good. No rasp.

I had the same setup on my CRX and I got a muffler shop to put a generic resonator on it and it cured the problem. Ran me about $40 for the resonator and install.

just go to a muffler shop. quick and easy.

mine sounds so nice in 5th gear on the freeway at 4500 rpms... wait, it doesnt sound like anything, nice and quiet. bitch sounds mean when i open her up though.

i feel like an old man sometimes because i cant drive a car with any type of loud-ish exhaust. i guess i'm just over that.

go with an 18" and you'll be fine.

almost forgot, dont buy those cherry bomb glasspacks, they suck. they will fall apart and crack, they cant take any abuse

Yeah don't get a cherrybomb or any type of glasspack as a resonator..It will sound beautifull at 1st,but the fiberglass packing inside eventually melts and it will sound as if there isnt even anything there...

On my old car i used a dynomax bullet race muffler as the resonator and a dynomax turbo muffler as the main silencer muffler...and the damn thing sounded so good,,but it was a little bassy at idle

Thanks for all the replies. I had the muffler shop put on a resonator. Looked like it was only 12". Just about cured it. Just a little rasp when it is cold. I should have ordered a longer resonator online rather than using what they got, but I might stick with what I have. Thanks a lot for the input.
