Default D16Z in a 91 Si

I have a 91 Si Hatch Automatic. I'm contemplating on takin my buddy's D16Z from a 92 EG. First question, will it mount directly to an Si Auto Tranny? Second question, would a VTEC controller work with the stock ECU? I'm having alot of trouble finding a P28. Any help with be appreciated. It's my first Civic .

you can use an rpm activated switch to control vtec. not wise but it works.

its not wise to do so because your ecu doesnt have the adequate fuel maps for a vtec motor.

Didn't think so. So i'm better off continuing the search for a P28, correct?

well, you would also need a obd0-obd1 conversion harness and a auto p28. that is if the motor is complete. ( obd1 dizzy and 4 wire o2 sensor needed)
imho, id convert. that way you have the correct maps for the car.

i guess you could also chip the pm6 and run different maps. more aggressive ones and use a rpm switch.

What if I just did a head swap and left the D16A block and the auto tranny?

OBD1 is friign wayyy better than OBD0 get the ECU or the equivalent ( chipped P06 ) and use a jumper harness for the ECU and a 4 wire o2.

If you wanna be cheap use a PM6 with a Stereo relay. I beleive xenocron.com has a write up on it. 1 Wire Vtec using a PM6 .

good luck

Well registration lists it as an Si. I'm in Canada as well. Were there differences in Si's between Canada and US? Anyways, thanks for the info, much appreciated.

you can buy a pr3 or a pw0... Those are obd0 JDM vtec ecu's made for JDM b16 but they work fine with a single cam...... you dont even need a conversion harness or anything, just wire the vtec solenoid to the ecu...

I am running a pw0 in my crx with a d16 vtec and p29 pistons... runs good

maybe check ebay ??
