Default Experiences with traction control (AP2 only)

I know traction control gets activated if the rear tires spin in 1st gear or if I turn aggressively in 1st gear. What happens in 2nd, 3rd or 4th gear?

Today I went up to 7500 rpm in 2nd gear, road was wet and I have 1/4 tread left on stock tires. Tires spun for about 25 feet, car yoked to the right a bit and I let off the gas to correct. No traction control activated. Was wondering if it would have ever activated at all or if turning aggressively in 2nd, 3rd or 4th at higher speed in the dry or wet will activate traction control.

All driving mentioned here was not done on public streets.

In other words, will traction control save your *** at higher speeds? what are your experiences?

It's still supposed to come on. In your case, it should have backed off the throttle by way of the DBW, but you said you already "let off the gas". This also means that you were engine braking, and your tires were spinning slower than your speed would suggest. If you had hit the gas during that time, you would probably have felt the VSA.

Confirm that your car is an 06+?

Your new name? "The Noob"

/joke, except the first part of course.

Thats a 10-4. I must have engine braked before VSA activated.

The VSA will activate regardless of gear or speed. If you're going very fast, you can still spin out. It is something that "can" save you, but you're definitely going to have to drive smart first and foremost.

It cuts throttle power as soon as it feels slippage. I think there is a "yaw" sensor as well, not sure. Sometimes if you're sliding already, cutting the power won't save you and you'll continue sliding. Sometimes it will save you and you'll stop.

I'm just going to teach myself to drive mine to the point where anything that I need to do comes as second nature. From what I hear most owners wreck in the first months of owning it because they don't know how to drive. I made a jump from a swapped EJ8 to my AP1, I'm not going to make the mistake of being reckless and wrecking and mine doesn't have the benefit of VSA, 2001 owner. I almost had the *** spin into a ditch and that reaffirmed my convictions.

Don't forget, brakes are applied to wheels in which the computer things need to be slowed in order for YOU to regain control. I tested this out in a huge parking lot, and it doesn't keep you from spinning out if you are steering into the skid, but, it slows the car so much/fast, if you can't catch it, go back to FWD. BTW, this coming from someone who has been FWD since 1995, and do many DEs and auto-xes per year. I took the S out for a few trials at Auto-x. The 07 is a very controllable car. Took 1st against an M3, 2 350s and an AP1 (i had traction control off, btw)

Okay I just had my rear tires changed and now when I make hard right turns the VSA "turned off" icon shows up on the HUD and also i hear a strange rubbing sound from, I think, the front of the car. As I come out of the turn the light turns off.

Does anyone know what's going on with the VSA?

Maybe they damaged one of the sensors or something. That seems really unusual.
