auto cross
im thinking about doing some auto crossing this summer.
what all do i need to set it up good...
so far i got lowerd, thats about it as far as handling.
ive seen a lower H shaped brace on ebay, any good?
i know i probably need a front sway bar, any specific brand?
what about the rear. i know i need a camber kit...
ive seen quite a bit of stuff on ebay, H brace, front strut /rear sway bar.
also, what about weight reduction. i plan on taking out the subs, what else should i take out?
thanks ahead for the help.

Well, this is what I would do, based on your Biography:
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">2k1 civic elex
*satin silver metallic
*black 17" racing hart c5's
*federal tyrez
*2" drop on teins
*DIY clear corners
*10,000k HID's
*Eclipse Door speaks
*Pentagon Sony 12" subs
*Full 15% tint, 35% front
*ebay Cold-air
*yellow ion fog lights</TD></TR></TABLE>
1. Ditch the tint, it's only going to cause you vision impairment.
2. Get some 15"-16" wheels that are actually light and of solid construction.
3. Get some better tires.
4. Upgrade your brake pads, and get some stainless brake lines.
5. Get a decent anti-sway setup for front and rear (Progress and Eibach are good companies to go with).
6. Get a camber kit, at least for the rear.
7. Toss the subs, they're just dead weight, and quite unnecessary.
As for the parts you've seen on eBay, I wouldn't buy any of them. They're cheap for a reason. The excuse, "But it's all I can afford," doesn't work in this situation. And, the H-Brace is almost 100% pointless (mounting solid structure to solid structure won't give you stability).

ok its pretty much just a show car, i was just gonna go expletive around.
i planned on taking out any dead wait i.e. subs/back seats, put on stock wheels. so pretty much all i need it swaybar setup and camber kit. explain the brake lines.

So you want to take a show car to the track.
Sounds like a great way to get laughed at.

They're gonna make you take out all the **** in the trunk anyways. Forget spending money, just go drive the damn thing. No amount of money into the car will substitute for learning how to drive.

They're going to make you take everything out that isn't securely fastened, this will most likely include the sub box, no matter how strong it's attached.
Before you start adding more mods, you're going to want to pick a race class. Most lowered civics are going to be in STS, swapped and lowered will get bumped into SM. I'd suggest to stick with STS, othewise you'll just be frustrated with a Civic in SM. Check the SCCA Solo rulebook for more info on race classes.

Usually you have good advice, but this time it sucks. autox is all about anyone and eveyone enjoying a good time out with their car what ever mods they have, it does not have to be a competative thing.

Go for it have fun with autox, based on your description (17" rims) you would be in STS. You cannot do the H brace and stay in this class. You do not need a front sway, you need a rear sway. Civics as with most FWD cars are understeer beasts so the entire idea is to stiffen the rear end.
Take out the subs and all of the contents of the trunk on race day, including the spare tire, jack, and flooring. I you really want a good cheap STS setup i would go with this (boiler feel free to add any other cheap mods that will allow him to have fun with what he has):
-Larger rear sway
-front strut tower bar
-front and rear camber kit (adjust it to around -2.0 in the font and -1.0 rear)
-I/h/e
-put on Hawk HPS pads
This will not get you a winning car but you will enjoy the events and have plenty of room to learn to drive the car. Once you are to the point where you feel like you can drive the car beyond where it will allow you to then you have plenty of room for modifications to keep you in STS

I base the majority of my advice on personal experience. Like it or not, having dark tint can actually impair your vision, and is not something you want on a track with other cars. If he's doing solo's, then sure he'll be fine with that tint setup. But, when I go track racing, I usually have more than just myself on the road. And, since cars can come just as quickly from behind, as they can from the front, I like to have the least amount of visual limitation as possible.
And, for the record, my advice isn't crap. Whether or not you agree with it, is totally on your personal opinion. No need to be rude on a situation that's so experience based.

Like Boiler said you drive with the windows down, and even if you don't, I have pretty dark tint and it in no way impairs my vision, day or night.

This comment is why I am being rude, this guy was just asking a good question, so he could get envolved with local race events. I know that my local SCCA region always welcomes new participants with open arms (god knows our sport could use all of the involment it can get) and their is no room for crap like this in that equation. He was not talking about going out and racing with shaved door handles, or an exhaust that shoots fireballs, it is just tint.
I will emphisize though that the subs need to go, atleast on race day, they may even make your remove them if they are not secured down.

It wouldn't be me that would be laughing, bud. You assume that I'm making fun of him, which I am not. Around here, at least at events I've been to, anyone sporting even the slightest bit of show-goods without the power/handling to back it up, gets boo'd and laughed at. Maybe it's just the nature of the people that were born in this state, I'll never know. But, there are rude enough people out there, to voice their opinion regardless of the location.

wow you know i didnt mean to cause this much bs. i really do appriciate the good advice. and i try to ignore the ********. but you know it was just a question. i do plan on taking out the subs and any non needed crap, this is a non issue here. all i asked it what else should i do. and yes i do have tinted window, all the way around. the front is fully tinted 35%, thats not much, and does not impair my vision what-so-ever. thanks boiler and bgoetz you info will be used, and thanks for being cool.
