Default Got a quick question about thinwall sockets

i have aftermarket wheels on my car. the original tire/wheel size is 195/70/14 but currently i'm rolling on 205/55/16 i have a dilemma.. the original lug wrench won't fit in the holes where the lug nuts are located because the wall of the wrench is too big..which means i'm screwed if i get a flat tire. i'm looking for a thinwall socket 21mm or something equivalent to that will work when i'm changing my tire. i found a thinwall socket on tire rack, but i don't know if i just put it on my original lug wrench. the socket is suppose to fit on a 1/2" wrench, but i don't know what that means. the handle of my original lug wrench is 1/2" but the tip/socket is actually 1". Does this mean the socket will fit onto my lug wrench or no?

It may be a socket that has a 1/2' hex on the end that you stick in another socket, like a wheel lock key. If not, you will need a breaker bar or something of that sort. You can to Sears and get a Craftsman one for like 20 or 25 bucks.
Can I get a link to it though?

I think it means it fits a 1/2" drive socket. I.e. A rachet where the square thing at the end is 1/2"

Maybe like this?

Lug wrenches (like the kind that come with the car) are not made to be used with anything other than the lug nuts on the car.

Are you sure that your lug nuts are 21 mm? I'm not familiar with lug nuts for Accords but all the Honda/Acura lug nuts I've seen are 19 mm.

If you're going to use a socket, you'll need to get a wrench that's designed to accept the socket. That can be either a torque wrench (which prevents you from overtightening the lug nuts) or a simpler "breaker bar" or "power wrench" (which is basically just a bar that holds the socket).

Here are some inexpensive options in wrenches, any of which would be suitable for your needs:

Gorilla Extendable Power Wrench $7.99 at the Tire Rack

Gorilla Extendable Power Wrench Set 1334 (includes 2 thin wall sockets (19 & 21mm) and a 3" extension) $15.99 at the Tire Rack

Adjustable Torque Wrench $29.99 at the Tire Rack

Adjustable Torque Wrench $19.99 at Harbor Freight (often goes on sale for $9.99-14.99)

All of these use 1/2" drive, which means they can use a socket designed for 1/2" drive.
