timing belt change
Alright, I have some questions that if you guy's could help me with it would be greatly appreciated.
Ive got a first gen b16a swapped into an 89 Si hatch and i'm looking to replace the timing belt and water pump. Seeing as most of the shops around where I live love to fart around on the issue I figured that I would tackle it myself. I have intermediate knowledge about the car, i'm just nervous about messing with the timing.
Are there any decent writeups on chaning the timing belt and water pump for this swap? Thanks alot.
One last thing, i'm looking into getting a replacement clutch/ light flywheel. If looking to get one on a site, am I going to need to cross-reference part numbers? Or can I just get a set for any b - series.
Thanks alot.

the main thing to know about changing the timing belt is that the cams and crank have to be lined up. there are hash marks on the cam and crank pulley that line up with other points on the block or the timing covers, and those things all need to be aligned when you remove the belt and when you put it back on. and by aligned.. i mean perfectly aligned.
the best thing to do is get a honda manual for your engine from http://www.helminc.com or scour the dark corners of the internet for an electronic version and read about the process.
there are also probably tutorials on H-T about how to do it.. so search for those as well.
i suggest using the archived radio button and the text "timing belt" in your search.

Hell yeah, Thanx for the pictures. One last thing, when replacing the water pump and tensioner, Can I use the specs from an American B16? For example, buying the required parts for a Del sol (b16a3)?
yes, get parts for a 95 delsol b16. Some of the 99si stuff is different. Also get a new tensioner assembly. Its only a couple bucks extra and worth the peace of mind.

Haha this reminds me when I completely FVCKED my timing. On top of that when I took the crank pulley out I lost the little square key, so the marks on my pulley were never really accurate. Good times good times
Compaired to my DSM, changing the timing belt on my B16 was the easiest I have ever did on a DOHC engine. It was almost to easy. But then again the timing belt on a 4G63 is a complete bitch.
