How loud was it? Most likely it was just valvetrain noise from the motor being cold. When was your last valve adjustment?

Hmm, well if the adjustment was done right im sure you were just noticing it for some reason. Does it only do it on cold starts?

what motor do you have? b16? obd1? the reason why i ask or saying this is because the b16's obd1 tend to have valve ticks. i believe it is the lma that always go bad.

If it's not your valvetrain, my next guess is rod bearings...

Rod bearings would not go away with temp like that.

I have the same clicking noise when my motor is cold...goes away as soon as it's warmed up. I probably need a valve adjustment but when you start to get into the whole screwing with timing and turning it to TDC and such...I'll buy someone a case of beer who wants to do it. Either way, aside from being annoying I just ignore it.
