Default Another Security Thread: towing

Seems like security measures have been beaten to death recently. Except for one.

Is there any way to keep thieves from towing your car (aside from the obvious)? Strategic ways of parking? Locking the wheel at full turn? Any way to lock the brakes (~ a reverse autolock)? Etc, etc... If you're not comfortable posting, please IM. Thanks.

Chain it down to the house.
Remove the wheels.
Have five pitbulls sleep all around the car.
Sleep in the car.

Get two "U" style motorcycle wheel locks. Run these through the spokes on your wheels so that when the wheels turn the lock hits the caliper. Should take only about 1 min to setup. Put one on the front wheel and one on the rear. This way the theives will either have to flatbed the car or destroy the locks.

Unless they drive it like Homer Simpson (the episode where he has Wheel Boots on his rims and he drives with them on, destroying his fenders while doing so)

make sure you have wheel locks as well as if you don't they may just swap out your tires with one steel ones (i dunno how time consuming that would be).

-aoib0t, who knows thieves won't be on this earth too long.

I was thinking of getting a fatty chain and then chaining the car to a tree or something by the wheel.

Most tow companies will use the dollies if they have to...just a couple of clicks per wheel and they are up in the air now riding on 2 little tires...talk to a REPO driver to see what can be done to prevent the car from being towed...if someone knows how to tow a car away stealthily, they would.

Great Idea Austin.
But people need to realize that that there is no 100% fool-proof way to prevent theft. If they want it bad enough, they will get it..

How about parking the car on a pressure sensor or some kind of switch, so that when the car moves it activates the house alarm also

Craig - Who knows if they want it bad enough, its gone.

Easier to steal the flatbed...and way more lucrative. I know that where I park my car it is impossible to tow it from where it is...but I'm sure that someone could figure something out...

wheel locks dont matter. the wheels dont even have to move to be dragged
up onto a roll back.

Roll back is another name for a flat bed...the flat bed rolls back.

But dont the wheels still have to rotate for the 10-15 feet it takes to actually get the car on the flatbed?

Generally the deck of the flatbed allows the wheels to slide fairly easily (and silently)..

This is the real "rollback" BTW.

Do the wheels have to rotate on a non ABS car with all 4 wheels locked up to move 15 feet?

Winch. Drag.

the winch on a flat bed truck is strong enought to pull the car even if the wheels don't turn. The theives don't really care if they flat spot the tires.

Which brings us back to my original suggestions a little higher
