1998 Honda Accord Ex Automatic Transmission Shifts Rough
Hi,
I have a 1998 Honda Accord Ex, the transmission has been shifting rough lately when it shifts from 1st to 2nd , but the remaining shifts are smooth, before i do a transmission flush i would like to know if the problem is due to bad timing, any pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Tim

yes, the V6 auto transmission is crap. Lets hope you have less than 100k miles. I think Honda extended the warranty on them. I dont remember how many years, is it 10 years or 7?
98 cars are not covered under any warranty........neither are the 99 and 02 models.
the 00 and 01 models are 7 yr 9 mo or 109K miles
trans is a POS and you need to REPLACE IT.

So, whats the deal with the tranny's? I've never riped one apart before. Does the pump burn out? or a clutch pack or what? I know that on all new chryslers, you need to run a particle filter inline with the cooler return line and a sight glass in the pressure line because they plug up and burn out the pump.
I'm just curious because people just say its crap, but nobody seems to have a solutuon to the problem. Its just an automatic "go to the dealer" thing...I dont think thats very productive for a technical forum. In addition to that, there must be a way to prevent this from happening if someone owns a low milage vehicle. It cant 'just be that way'. There has to be a reason, and a solution.

Bump for JDM layin it out on the table. Wish I knew.
Also because I have a 99 EX auto, and didn't realize these trannys had so much trouble. But I guess it would have probably cost as much to teach my girlfriend to drive a manual.

main problems are
differental bearings are crap and disintigrate easily causing reduced fluid flow and leaking axle seals
2nd gear clutch pack is already low on lube but the above problem causes the clutch pack to wear out and slip
