Default Trouble getting car out of Park!

I have 1999 Honda Accord Lx automatic transmission. Recently i've been having trouble getting the shifter to move. The button you press to shift to reverse, drive etc. does not go down when I press the break. It's as if the break was not applied. I have tried pushing the break all the way down as hard as i can and then just lightly. The button gives usually after lightly pumping the break pedal. Sometimes this doesnt work but i fidget with it until it does. I'm afraid it will not let me press it one day at all. Any advice or ideas as to what it might be and how i could fix it?

There is a switch by your brake pedal which detects when you push the brake. I am not sure if it is the same one that operates the brake light. Maybe the switch is a bit stiff? Try spraying some WD40 on it to loosen it up and see. You can also try to press the brake and see if the brake lights light up all the time or if the switch is really stiff. I am not sure if its the same one.

There is also a solenoid that controls that button. Maybe the solenoid is going bad or there is a bad connection or something. I would say to open up the shifter area and look around for loose wires and look if everything is lubricated and not stiff to move.
