Default wetsand with what grit before laying clear coat

after two medium coats of base, what grit paper do I use to sand the base before I lay a think tack coat of clear?
thanks

ps-my first paint job, so any imput will be appreciated

Don't really need to sand the base. If you want you can lightly sand the dirt nibs with 2000 grit (dry, just scuff lightly), but other than that just tack rag it, and shoot it with clear. And I would go 3 coats of base, just to make sure you have obtained coverage.

even if you sand out the nibs with 2000, id still spray some clear over those spots.

Not all paint covers the same, so make sure your getting complete coverage. De-nib the base before your last coat of base, so spray another coat of base before you clear. If your spraying a solid color, you should be good, but a heavy metalic, you should be extra meticulous and observant before you clear. If you don't need to nib / fix anything on the base then threre is no reason to sand, just clear it.
