Default [4th Gen] Window problem.

So ya, im gonna try and save a few bucks and fix this myself. Yesterday before work i opened up door panel to take a peak around to see if i could get lucky and have an easy fix. Don't think thats gonna happen, anyways, the window neither goes up nor down, but i can hear the motor spinning. Is this enough info to steer me in the right direction on which part i need? Also, i couldnt really see a whole lot of the motor/regulator/winow, do i need to take that metal (panel??? or whatever you call it) off.

try disconnecting the motor from the track then hitting the switch if the motor turns then it is probably the track. you will not be able to remove the metal without cutting it out, you should be able to get the motor out with the metal still there.

uh you dont need to cut metal

but you do have to remove the glass
and you gotta unscrew the side door molding by peeling off the rubber cover for that side molding
then you can unbolt the glass from the regulator
and then you can remove the glass
then...you can unbolt the regulator along with the motor and fish it out of the big hole in the bottom side of the door

ive done this about 5 times and i hate doing it

with my case...the teeth on the regulator just get flattened out by the gear teeth on the motor

so there will be a flat spot on the regulator where the gear teeth should be
the motor just spins on that section of missing teeth

try pushing the glass down with your hands while you press the down button to see if your glass moves down freely...and also back oup

Ok havent touched it since, but gonna take another look today. But the window now seems to fall down about 3 inches. I can also move the glass up and down while i press the botton also.

btw i just remembered

i had another problem with the window too
the motor would spin but the window wouldnt move....
but the whole glass was able to move up and down with me pushing and pulling it

i took it apart to find out the "rubber bushng" inside the motor was broken
the stubs on that bushing that go into a couple of holes on a metal plate sliced off by old age

damn ive had so many problems with the window
i fixed it tho..but i forgot how

just replace the whole motor/regulator
