Default So I buy this built block extended deck 86mm...Couple of questions

I have read every article and thread I can find on extended decks and on high compression. I bought this block knowing that it was for all motor but decided to take a chance to see if I could at worse just swap the pistons out fro lower compression ones. After reading for about 3 hours i was still left with these couple of questions:

Specs:

B18B1 (Peter Yem Built)
.75" or 19mm Extended Deck
86mm Sleeves
Custom Howard Rods
High HIGH Compression Pistons

Questions:

I am planning on staying non-vtec and going boost. If so What timing belt would I/Can I use to retain stock water pump location?

I take it custom timing belt covers will have to be made?

And lastly I thought these were 11.7 or so...my guess is they are 13-14:1

Thanks in advance.

I admire you courage, but question your judgment.I seriously hope this is a drag car only.Aluminum rods have a fairly short life for one thing. The gains you may make with the rod ratio or displacement will be limited by your cylinder head choice.
It seems like a hard way to make 500 ish hp.I can't help you with a belt but I have seen some stuff in the archives. You will just need to make a filler panel for your timing belt covers. And yes your probably in the 13's to one compression.

Well actually I was thinking along the lines of 350-380whp range on low compression pistons and a decently ported head. I figured in that since I have this block already, sleeved and at 86mm, why not use it.

why not? standard bore on a K series is 86mm, and pluse this a sleeved block not a stock sleeved honed to 86mm

thats a whole different beast lol boosting 86mm pistons in a B-series isnt the best thing to do most would say 84.5mm is pushing and anything over that is usually for all motors apps. the main reason for that is that the piston is lighter and thinner which isnt good for boost over about 15psi

key word, k series are stock at 86mm. sleeved or not 86mm on a b series is still thin. if this is a race engine sure go for it.

You can do that with a stock block and not blow out the gasket between cylinders. The bore centerlines are father apart on a k.I'm not saying what your trying to do can't work, but it's far from the best or the easiest.

looks like the best option is either to trade this for someone who has alow compression short block or sell it and buy a gsr long block.

yea dude, if u wanna make bomb n/a power then keep that block, but if u wanna boost, sleeve a stock deck height gsr or something maybe bore to a 2.0 if ur really lookin for displacement. dude people put down bomb numbers reliably on stock deck height bseries with less money then wuts into that motor now. so if ur gonna boost, sell it, sleeve another motor (not necessarily b series unless ur bent on one) , throw some forged internals in her, a fatty turbo, a good tune, and then all of the obvious small ****, and ull be much happier with ur setup. just my .02 man GL
