Increase compression and displacement right? I have never heard of it, and your r/s ratio would be really bad so you wouldn't be able to "reliabley" rev that high to use the power.

It is no problem at all. That is what Birdman did. With the H23 crank, you can use Pauter (H23 rods) and get custom pistons or you can use a H22 off the shelf rod and still have to get custom pistons.

To get horsepower you need to rev the engine. To get torque you have to stroke it. H23vtec is the way to go with the heavy BB.

Make sure the crank is balanced. Castillos in CA does the best work.

im doing the same right now. the h23 crank gives you a longer stroke making more power. you will have to use h23 rods and h22 pistons which in turn will be the h23 vtec. the h22 head as well. with the h23 crank you will have to bend the oil spitters or get rid of em. i just bent mine. not a big deal though.

Can you tell me more about this setup? How high you rev? Dyno numbers or anything?

Heres an H23 VTEC(Accord motor) Stock guts at 10:1cr
SR Intake
Greddy Header
2.5" exhaust
tuned on VAFC2+p28
Similarly modded h22s make ~175/145 on this Dyno

please please please do a search on this and find out all the details of doing this swap. its not as straight forward as it seems.

1 for instance is you can NOT put an h23 crank into a 98+ h22...unless its the SiR crank from japan.

doesnt fit 98+ because of the bigger mains right?
Jai has a factory H23A VTEC that came from an accord wagon or something?
those are rare though.

Yes, 98+=Bigger Mains but as Nat could tell(IIRC) you, the early 98's came with the 50mm H22A4 from the 97's.
The H23A isn't that rare.....they can be found and aren't that expensive. Theres another thread going right now....~$1500/longblock-no trans
Yes, Accord SiR Wagon and AUTO TRANS only....thats why you will see people selling Engine only. The guy I know just used a US H22 Trans with his...
I always suggest to play it safe and just source A1 parts.....i.e. H23A1 crank in H22A1 block. The H23A1 works in the JDM motors as well, but its easy to confuse them.
H23A VTEC
I have never done business with them though........My EG Hatch is screaming for one as we speak!

cheap stroker, only works for the pre-97 H series blocks.
power sooner/ revs less

piece of crap when done sloppily
NOICE engine when done properly

lol, why does everyone think you can't rev an H23 crank as high as an H22?

I'm in the same boat, Recently picked up a second jdm h22a block for a build... was just gonna throw some type s pistons in with some a4 rods, but I've been thinking about the h23 crank. is there a way to use the type s pistons with the h23 crank, with some aftermarket rods? or do you have to get custom pistons in the end, to accomodate that crank? I don't want to sleeve or anything so i'd prefer to stay type s with the frm.

just use H23 rods with that combo, but keep in mind the compression will be up there so you might want to tone it down a bit with a thicker head gasket. also if you run a high lift camshaft be sure to clay the motor at assembly, otherwise thats a great combo.

OR you should just buy all of 98vtec's stuff... H23 crank, crower rods, 89mm wisecos pistons, thicker cometic head gasket hell of a deal!
