Default LS vtec or GSR WITH B16 head?

Alright so i have a 97 gsr and i have an extra ls block and b16a tranny to go ls vtec with a gsr head or i can buy a b16 head and go gsrblock b16a tranny and b16 head. Which is better and which do you prefer? Or do you guys think i should just go ls vtec with my gsr head for now and buy a b16a head later on.

Wait forget that, I meant, I can either buy a b16 head or a b16 tranny right now, so yeah, either i go ls vtec with gsr head or just gsrblock with b16 head for now.

I'd recommend a left click on a Search button with the keywords of LSVTEC or Poormans-R

b16 heads will lower your compression on a gsr block. poor mans type r isnt just the head and tranny.

that is also what i heard, you cant just slap a b16 head and tranny onto a b18c/1 and be a poormans type r. . . . wouldnt it need more things???

GSR head outflows the Si head. Waste your money on valvetrain parts instead.

more reliable also because its vtec on vtec slapped together ...

but you will lose compression if you slap b16 head on. so you might need to upgrade the internals. If not just ******* buy cams slap it on your gsr motor and tune it on hondata and call it a day.

Well basically im going to buy an lsd tranny, i already have the ls block and some pistons, buying skunk2 cams, rods, and some other stuff i need for ls/vtec to be stable. Sound good? should be quick without blowing up. Just dont know that much because i dont see people having gsr heads with ls vtec, its usually a b16 head.

Stop mix-n-matching factory VTEC motors and heads. Thanks.

The GS-R motor is a beautiful thing, don't ruin it by putting a b16 head on it.

sounds like he either drove like a douche or built it very poorly.

ls vtecs arent unreliable, it usually has to do with the way its built.

and why does it sound like you have a complete gsr swap? if you do just stick with that or rebuild it.

why build a motor for vtec when you already have one. if something is wrong with it then rebuild.

And I'll go ahead and say it again, the GSR head outflows the b16 head. People use b16 heads because hype owns them and theyre stupid.

The gsr head outflows the b16a head to a certain extent. Do a PnP on the b16a head and add higher cr pistons (JDM ITR/CTR) with supporting mods, then you'll own. But mating a stock b16a head to a stock b18c/c1 block = , might as well keep it as the original gsr and build the motor.

i agree, add some jdm itr pistons, good cams, boltons, hondata etc.
the ctr pistons would raise it fairly high to like 12:1+ as far as i know
also: from what i've seen 'flow graphs' from people, if they were legit then the heads flow nearly the same.

So you're comparing a head with some headwork done to it to a stock head?

Gee, I wonder which is going to perform better!!

check this out.. if ur gonna just put a b16 head on a ls block, youll get dust by ur old stock GSR, and if u just gonna put a b16 head on a gsr block "so called poor man R" ur still gonna get smoked by ur old stock GSR..why??? because your mix n match motor's compression will drop significantly. how about keep your stock GSR with a b16 tranny upgrade??

This is what I'm thinking to. Some idiot said the same thing in the "All Motor" board...

No it's not. B18C1 block with a B18C1 head is the best choice. Don't mess with things that aren't broken.

if your going to put ctr pistons i would use a b16 head. why? b16 have bigger combustion chambers. b16 heads dont flow better than gsr heads. if i were you i would keep the gsr motor put an ls crank and some itr spec pistons. you might have to get aftermarket rods because i dont think ls rods are the same as gsr rods. .02 cents

If I already had a gsr motor (oh wait I do) why not just keep it like that. Get bigger pistons maybe bore it over a little.

Definately don't get a ls block if you have a vtec ready block at your disposal.
Send your head off to get a PNP and some valvetrain. CTR cams and definately a better tranny or at least LSD and a Final drive.

Think reliability.
If you don't, we will all know about when you make a thread about how some **** went wrong and now you're sitting on a busted motor.
It's happened before and it will keep happening again as long as people try to building their motors based of a thread they create.
Research. Research. Research. IT WILL PAY OFF because reliability is bliss!

To a certain extent? You mean until you do work on it? Thats like saying a b18c5 is better than a b18b to a certain extent: Throw a turbo on the b18b and it will own. Use your head.

First what's wrong whit your gsr engine? Not fast enough?

If you want to do a nice set up, you must fisrt think about what are you gonna do with that car? Drag? autocross? Lapping? Or simply drive it around town getting tickets What's your goal?

I'm in the same situation as you wright now... I will have to rebuilt soon. So, that question has almost driving me nuts!!

For my part, I really think I'm gonna rebuilt the bock stock, but lighter and stronger... Then I'm gonna put a JR supercharger...Then maybe port the head later ... I will probably be not the faster on the straitht, but on the track, it will be very fast. That what I like...
