Can someone tell me the steps on removing the front speakers, and replacing them i have a 1995 honda prelude si. Pictures would be very helpful thanks
I actually just did this... I'm going off of memory but...
Screw Removal
1) Remove screw from the control panel behind the door handle.
2) Gently pry using a flat head around the edge of the control panel frame. It should just pop out. Disconnect the connectors once you have it out enough to do so.
3) Remove screw from inside the little change holder in the armrest part of the door.
4) Remove the final two screws, one on the lower rear edge of the panel, the other on the upper front edge. They are easy to find and have little caps over them.
Panel Removal
1) Start from where you removed the upper front screw. Slip your fingers between the panel and the door and pry and work your way around. There is around 8 little plastic clips in total that need to be popped out. You'll be able to tell when they are.
2) Now to actually get the panel off, you must LIFT UPWARDS. This is very important, if you just try to pull the panel toward the car you will expletive it up
Tips
1)When removing the control panel from the door panel, set the lock in the unlock position, this puts alot less stress on things and requires less pulling and prying this way.
2) when popping the clips, don't be a bitch
Use force, they wont break
3) if any clips stay in the door and don't come out with the panel, pull them out with some pliers and put them back in the panel before you reinstall it.
That's about it, If you have anymore questions I didn't answer you can PM me or post in here

these are the speakers i bought for the front http://www.bestbuy.com/site/ol...38225 are they going to fit, they do not fit the rear
I just installed Infinity Reference 6012s all around, which are also 6 1/2"s. They have a mounting depth of 2 3/8". The Insignia 6 1/2" speakers you got only have a mounting depth of 2" so I don't see why they wouldn't fit. What exactly is stopping them from fitting in the rear? Where are they getting cought up?
i got 6 1/2 " speakers to fit on my 5th gen(for the front) , So i think you sound be good... And your are 5 1/2" right?

In order to get my Infinities to fit in the rear I had to take a dremel with a grinding wheel and shave off all the excess plastic; as much as I could without making the basket useless. Also, I had to drill new holes to connect the speaker to the basket, however, the whole assembly (speaker inside basket) when finished still dropped into location just like stock.
The fronts were a bit trickier. You have to cut off the whole bottom of the basket as well as trim the inside the same way I mentioned you do to the rears. Then to screw the speaker to the basket you have to get very very creative,as these baskets are much smaller than the ones found in the rear and don't leave much material at all to drill into for new screw locations
I wish I just did a nice write-up when I did my install...
EDIT: The 7" width is a typo, I know this for a fact...

All I can say from my experience is that 6 1/2"s will fit in the front locations on a 4th gen. Not without some work, but if you want them in there bad enough and you are good at DIY type work, then you can get them in there. Honestly, it wasn't that hard to me, but I enjoy and excel at that kinda ****, not everyone is the same. If you're looking for a direct drop in I've heard Boston Acoustics 5 1/4" speakers just slip right in there, but they are a decent jump in price from your insignias.

This was my first time doing audio work of any sort on a car. I hate audio stuff, I'm much more into performance, but I had some extra cash and got tired of my shitty *** 14 year old blown paper speakers. Even with my lack of experience in the audio department I still got these front speakers installed as well as the rears, and the 6x9 between the two rear seats all in one day. Not only that but I amped EVERYTHING using a 4 channel Infinity amp. Which means taking every interior panel out of the car short if the dash board and running speaker wire all throughout the car so that it looks completely stock, not a wire in site. Prier to under taking this I had no idea how to wire a sound system; series wiring, parallel wiring, how ohms change wattage and by how much, blah blah blah, or even how to remove most of the interior panels. So I spent about 2 days researching in my spare time, then one Sunday to install it all. I went from knowing nothing about sound systems to damn near everything in a span of 3 days. In my eyes doing this install was a great experience, in some peoples eyes doing stuff like that is a pain in the ***, whether or not you want to do this install just depends on who's eyes your looking through
Edit: I just read this over and it's kinda gay but it's one in the morning and I'm a little buzzed, so give me a break...

6.5's all around. You need to modify the stock mounting brackets to make them mount in the locations.
My Infinity speakers came with a spacer ring and I had to use that to clear the trunk braces.
I am used to the Ford 6x8's that everyone made to exactly fit, I guess I was spoiled. It was different trying to get these speakers mounted.

Yeah I had 6 1/2 in. speakers all around in my 4th gen and I had no problems with fitment. No modification needed. They MIGHT be for sale too.
What kind of speakers did you guys use? My Infinity 6 1/2"s required ALOT of work as you can read above. If they are close to the stock 30 RMS Watt power rating then it kinda makes a little sense, because they would be able to be shallower and have smaller magnets, frames, etc.
