Okay, so as people might already know... I bought a JDM H22A1 with trans and my dad sent it to this mechanic right??
Dude says he'll put the motor in cause he sold me a car that had a bad motor..... A few days pass, then he proceeds to tell me that the motor "Won't fit without major modifications"...
Is this guys just ******* stupid?? An H22A1 was BUILT for that Honda Prelude, so how would it not go in there?!
I think I'm just dealing with a dumb mechanic...

The motor will fit perfect. The mechanic is wrong.
I assume this is an h23 car. so you want to use your h23 wiring harness on the h22 motor. use the h23 fuel rail because the lines come out on the wrong side. you need the full h22 header or an aftermarket one. wire in vtec and oil pressure sensor straight to the ecu and your set.

That's what I thought!! Now my dad's all mad and **** talking about how it wont fit and how I bought the wrong motor... making me look all stupid.
Thing is, the guy has an H23 that he's gonna like charge us 1500 bucks for..... He says he'll put that in... I think the guy is pullin one over on us cause he wants HIS motor to be installed and not the one I saved my money up for and bought...
But I'ma straight take this thread over to that shop first thing tomorrow morning and ask that guy to physically show me how that motor does NOT fit into that car....

Here's my plan... I'm gonna roll up in there tomorrow with this thread and step-by-step tutorial I found on the swap (with pictures of the motor going in)....
I'm going to ask him to give two hours of his time (the shop is never busy)... with Me and my friend...... we can get that motor in..
My thing is, I just need a place to put the Honda, then I CAN PUT IT IN..... Or I just need to guy to help me get it on the mounts... nothing else, just on the mounts... I can wire it myself....
I live in the Cincinnati, Ohio area... If ANYONE has a place or knows of a place that someone could either perform the install (for money of course lol), or knows of a place where I could put the Honda so I could do it... PLEASE let me know...
thanks,
Bryan

Well it mounts in fine... the guy was just antsy about the wiring differences and he noted how the fuel lines on the rail came out the wrong side and all....... He didn't wanna fool around with it so I just asked the guy to help me mount it in the car and I could do the rest....
My thing is that I hope I have an OBD1 H22.... On the placard it says "H22A" so I'm assuming that its a fourth gen JDM Prelude motor....
Reason I'm asking is that I heard from this tutorial that H22A4 in the fifth gens actually had the fuel rail that came out of the wrong side too? Is this true? My main concern now is just the wiring!
I swore that H22A was the fourth gen motor.....

most-likely its an obd1 motor, if not its not that much different.

both the fifth gen and the fourth gen jdm motors have the fuel rail on the opposite side of the usdm.
Make sure he used your h23 wiring harnes.
The motor is fine as long as it is mounted. If you mount it and use the h23 harness and either ecu the car wil run. you will just be missing vtec.

Can you post a picture of the dials that would indicate what year it was made and such?
it should look like this near the header bolts
