Default Windshield Repair

I guess this question isn't really Accord specific...cuz it applies to any car...Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone knows anything about glass repair. I have a small rock chip on my windshield (don't know how it got there) and it's about 3/4" inch in diameter, near the top right of the glass. Has anyone ever gotten their glass repaired? Does it work? How are the results? The reason I ask is that it's obviously much easier to repair than to buy a whole new windshield just for a small dinky crack. Thanks for any comments/info.

i dont know about your policy, but my insurance covered my windsheild replacement. it had a small chip in it and then it froze one night and cracked all the way across.

Insurance covered mine as well...maybe the window needs to be cracked or broken?

My insurance doesn't cover it. I got a rock chip in my car about a year ago and bought this repair kit from NAPA (~$3). It worked great - you can't even see where the chip was. Make sure you get it fixed before it turns into a crack. Once its a crack, its much more difficult to deal with.

Has anyone ever gotten someone from the yellow pages to come and repair your windshield? I heard that costs like 30 and they can fix up to like 12" inch cracks. My rock chip isn't that big (3/4" inch in diameter) but I was just wondering what my best plan of action would be. That $3 kit from NAPA sounds pretty good though.

My insurance covered replacement of an entire windshield. it depends on your coverage. Personally, I'd like to have a fully intact windshield when a rock comes at me at 70 mph, but that's your choice. if you do opt for the sealer, do it before the winter.

insurance should cover it call them first, my insurance covers the repair first and if the repair doesn't hold, they then replace the windshield

however, they DO NOT cover the windshield if you try to repair it yourself... they have documentation of the crack

also if the crack is less than a quarter in size, it can be repaired, otherwise new windshield

from my experience, new windshields are just not the same, stay with the same one if possible, my crack is barely noticable and it's been 2 years, no growing whatsoever
