Clunking Soung when Braking...Bad Axels
Well the other day I put some new 17in rims on my car.
After that I noticed that when I am braking when I get to about 5-10mph I can hear a clunking sort of sound. It sounds like something is caught in the wheel assembly. And it is on time with the rotation assembly (as it faster im going faster it clunks and slower etc.) I never noticed this before. But it does not to this all the time, just after about 5-10minutes of driving.
So I jacked the car up everything looked fine, however when I rotated the passanger wheel 1 full rotation at one point it looks like the axle is getting pushed out alittle, and it doesnt spin in a perfect circle. It seems alittle lop-sided. So I had the car jacked up and put it in first and had the wheels spin freely. It did the same thing the axle looked like it was spining wierd but worst of all it was moving my transmission. It looked to push the tranny back about 1/2 inch. It seems at one point my axle is popping out in a way (easiest way for me to explain it) Also kind of sounded like something was broke or ratteling inside the axle or tranny area)
Is there a problem with my axle or is the clunking another problem.
*EDIT
When I drive the car the steering wheel shakes pretty bad esp. on the highway above like 50mph. Even when I let my foot off the gas it still shakes. And the car drifts slightly to the right, it never did before. I know shaking during acceleration is axles but mine does it all the time esp on the highway.
This is getting very annoying and im worried it might be something more than an axle, maybe something in my Tranny?

Well I had to get my car inspected this month, so I went (and it passed inspection). But while I was there I showed him about the axle and he looking at it (the mechanic) and when he tried to spin the wheel freely it gets caught up at a specific point (it binds, you have to use extra force to spin it) so the mechanic said the axle is bad.
EDIT at bottom of first post about shaking
