Can we all start a H-T Squid Fo' Life Crew? I want to be member #16, because it's the number of concussions I've had but I still refuse to wear a helmet because I'm too cool for it
Plus, how else am I going to pay for all those Oakley's I crack?

To understand a Squid we must first understand where he comes from. Who is the squid and why does he smell so bad? is it that they don't have money to buy the gear or is it because they just think its cool and rebellious?

i always like to think the best analogy for a squid was to compare it to the real thing. A squid relies on short thrusts for movement. It can go pretty fast in a strait line but when it come to tunring it must come to an almost complete stop then shoot off in the desired direction.
Its very funny because many new riders look and ride like that.

There are many definitions around, one of them was that years ago, when fisherman were stationed on the shores waiting to go out to the sea again, they purchased small 2 strokes bikes to move around in town. Seeing as most of them never drove one before, they were squirming in the streets, very inconsistent driving, causing many accidents also the bikes left trail of black smoke everywhere they went, so the term squid fitted them perfectly.

Urbandictionary.com said this,
A young motorcyclist who overestimates his abilities, boasts of his riding skills when in reality he has none. Squid bikes are usually decorated with chrome and various anodized bits. Rear tyres are too wide for their own good, swingarm extended. Really slow in the corners, and sudden bursts of acceleration when a straight appears. Squids wear no protection, deeming themselves invincible. This fact compounds intself with the fact that they engage in 'extreem riding'--performing wheelies and stoppies in public areas. Squids wreck alot. Derived from 'squirly kid'

actually the term 'squid' came from EMTs who would arrive on the scene of a motorcycle crash and see some dumb kid's intestines laying out all over the street. The visual was then deemed 'squid' as the intestines resemble tenticles. It sick, but unfortunately true.

The only riders I have a problem with are those who make the road less safe for me & others.
I couldn't care less if you choose to ride with a backwards g-string and socks..who gives a **** if someone else is comfortable wearing inadequate protection, its their skin not your's. I have no need to label them a 'squid' if that is strictly based on what they're wearing. My riding attire changes all the time. One day I might make the 3 minute ride from my apartment to class or the store in a t-shirt and shorts when its 80-90 out here in Cali or I may throw on my riding boots, jacket, & jeans to go the same distance another day. My riding habits don't change depending on what I'm wearing. I'm still as alert, cautious, and safe as when I wear full gear.
Doing wheelies, stoppies, ect. are just as idiotic and dangerous as taking turns on public roads as if you were on a race track. Obviously there are some extremes in each case that are inexcusable (doing a wheelie while splitting lanes or doing a stoppie on the freeway or something crazy). People really need to get over themselves and off their high horse and stop assuming they're 'better' than other riders because you choose to wear different gear on a daily basis.
It seems us 'non squids' forget that more likey than not we ride 'unsafely' multiple times when we hop on our bikes. Lets face it, no one buys a street bike & never speeds or rides way more aggressive than they should on the street. We wouldn't buy 90% of the bikes out there if we weren't motivated by how exciting it can be to 'push it' around town and in the canyons. I would've bought a scooter if I wanted all the benefits of a motorcycle and 99% less fun.
Damn, sorry for the rant. I'm just really bored @ work. I encourage a thoughtful
response so I have something to do while sitting here.
Cliffs: my rant about the overuse of the term 'squid'

I was gonna start a thread about this a while back but never did. At college, when im putting to class or to a friends house, Ill wear shorts and sneaks but I never get over 30 MPH. Does that make me a squid? i dont know. If it does I dont really care though lol.
Either way, im in on the H-T Squid Fo' Life Kru. When do we buy stickers and make beaters we can wear while riding? haha.
