Default 91' civic DX hatch .. what to do and minor problems

aight i just picked this car up a couple weeks ago .. i got it for $900 .. its a 91' civic DX hatch ... the car seems to run fine and its a 5-speed .. no a/c, no p/s .... the car needs some minor work like new fenders and a drivers corner light but thats all .. i wanted to know what are some mods i should do besides headers, intake, exhaust ... i dont wanna spend alot onthe motor thats in it .. but i wanna make it alittle better for the time being ... then swap it later but idk to what engine .. i want something that will basically drop straight in without alot of of ..

oh, and i noticed today and yesterday that when it rains it shoots white smoke out the exhaust .. but it only does it after it rains .. and i look under the car and on the main muffler part that sits sideways it has a leak and drips some sort of water/oil mixture out .. so do you think i just need to replace the cat and exhaust or do i need to replace the engine ..

so any help will be gratefull .. thanks in advance

Check out the FAQ section and search.

From what I have learned so far...the most effective and affordable thing you can do is a MPFI conversion.

your problem sounds like a head gasket but its weird it only smokes after it rains.. theres really no straight drop in motor for the dx.. you need to do the mpfi conversion to put anything better in there. but the easiest would be an si motor or sohc/dohc zc. those only need mpfi conversion. but you might want to get that smoke checked out by a mechanic.

Hey bro, basically what the MPFI swap does is gives your motor 4 injectors instead of the two that it has now. From what i understand, this makes a huge power difference. I just so happen to have all the parts necessary to do the job. As a matter of fact, i have all the Si parts including the Cam/ECU/Wiring/MPFI intake manifold?etc.
PM me if youre interested. I was gonna do it on my car, but im actually looking into doing a B-series swap in the nect 6 months or so.
Just let me know.

oh ok , sorry about that. but get the motor checked out to see if its even worth using at all. if the head gasket is blown you might aswell swap in something els.

That price doesnt sound too bad... I got a price here in Cali of $1200(if i supplied the motor and all needed parts)... Id say its a good deal.
Are they a reputable shop?
Id make sure that they will give some kind of warranty on the work, otherwise you may get it done and then have something go wrong and not know what to do with it.
Good Luck!!!

Thats close. It cost about $3k for a B16A or B18A/B swap out the door around here.

I wouldn't spent a dime on that D15 motor though. MPFI, but thats it. Not even brakes or suspension at this time. If you go B series, you'll need to do a small upgrade for hubs up front. Best to do all the brakes at the same time (front upgrade & rear disc conversion).

Do all the work possible in one area at a time. That way you don't have to go back and take it all apart again and again.

I'm in the same boat as you. My 90 Sedan is sitting oem til I have enough for all of it at one time.
