Fortunately it's not in a critical area.If it was my own block I would just carefully flat file the high spots off and run it.

I am in the shipping industry also. Cant blame poor packaging on the carrier. Think about how many MILLIONS+ they deal with. They can't handle one more carefully over the other. Just thought I would throw that out there.

Guess its not that bad. feel fortunate.

It is Ups's fault, the guy i bought it from took it to a ups store and they packaged it. They were also given specific directions to protect the deck and all they did was put a few pieces of cardboard on..****, for 260$ shipping It shoulda been in a padded crate

I know this is a little off the topic but, in this field I can actually say I am an expert. I hope you dont get frustrated if UPS denies your claim. Contact the UPS Store that shipped it. If they did the boxing or crating, the store will be responsible for the damage. I actually own a store and I will tell you first hand that it is unacceptable. Places like that give the business a bad rep. Contact the guy that shipped the item. He will have to be the one that gives you a reimbursement for damages. Make sure that he or you contact the UPS Store that it was shipped from before you do anything. Also make sure you keep all the packaging, if any, that came with your block.

Maybe thats how FEDEX does it. HAHA. j/k. If you read his last post. He bought the block from someone else and they had it packaged or did it themselves.

That is another thought. Gotta make sure the store that sent it actually did the packaging. I know I ALWAYS give the customer their choice. I tell them that its not packaged properly and if they dont care, I have them sign a waiver saying that they packaged it themselves and that we arent responsible for any damage due to lack of packaging. I know its easy to blame UPS but, in fact, it really is the care of how it is protected.

Outstanding attitude to have towards your job, I am sure you will go far there

To the OP, I have had damage similar in non critical areas and done the same thing, little filing to smooth it completely out and have at it. Never had an issue.

I believe the back corner of my current LS was scratched like that when I brought it home from the machine shop. You will be fine.

I use to work for ups for a year and a quarter and i'll tell you this...No one takes care of the packages lol. Even if they say fragile people still dump them to the corner of the ground. If its too heavy they will let the weight of the box hit the ground hard. Thats why whenever i ship anything its gotta be packaged right with tons of protection. I've unloaded and loaded tons of packages when i was there. I've seen just about everything there is to see being shipped lol. Lots of stuff i shipped ripped open and fell apart everywhere cuz of poor packaging. The stuff that came in crates like you said lasted and never ripped open except one cuz of bad nailing lol. Ups, fedex and usmail all do it all the same ways to. No getting around it all. Everyone gets paid practically minimum wage almost like 8.50 and most of the people don't care about the packages. Just gotta do the best you can in prevention and your safe practically . When i was there all they wanted to do is get the packages out as fast as necessary so everyone can get home early so they wouldn't have to pay everyone an extra hour lol. So you already know the quality involved in that. Just say'n . You already know what people did in the trailers once they got frustrated with a box that was wedged in a corner. boom . Just gotta package them well and you'll be good to go

its a crap shoot anyway you look at it.

it should have been in a padded crate, but the shipper should have demanded it was done that way in the store, or else how would they know?

saying "protect the deck" to a clerk is quite obscure for them.

not defending them, and i hope you get some money out of it, and thats an unfortunate thing to have happen
