Ticking Noise from top of motor and vibration in gas peddle. any help apreciated. posted June/04/20
Model: 2004 LX Civic Coupe 1.7L
Symptoms: Ticking noise from the top of the motor, more noticable towards the drivers side. I have not been able to pin point where the sound is comming from exactly. To me it sounds like the injectors or distributor. I just got this car for a really good deal so i am not framiliar with the motor yet. I took the car in about the noise and they said it needed a valve adjustment. So i got that done no change in the noise. One thing i did notice was before i got the valve adjustment when i was letting off the gas from say 3000 rpm slowly i would get a slight vibration in the gas peddle, that vibration has almost gone away now but now i get the vibration on accelaration from a stand still.
The ticking noise from the top of the motor is not extreamly loud i notice it most whenever the car is pulled up beside something like another vehicle or a drive through were the sound waves can bounce back. or if i get out of the car and go to the front of the vehicle.
Any suggestions would help a lot i would really like to figure out the ticking and the vibration. thans a lot in advance

my mom has a buick regal and there was a ticking noise coming from one of the wire conductors. it was leaking wire, by leaking means it was leaking electricity or power.. if that makes sense but these motors dont have distributors or wires they have coil packs. my 1.7 makes a clicking noise but its a normal thing in our cars its really not a big deal. if its loud and obnoxious getting close to like ... a metal to metal clicking then it might be sumthing internal. mine clicks faintly and its just the sound of a normal motor. the vibration i duno about.
My 04 ex clicks a lil bit but its just the pulleys. If it sounds like its comming from the valvetrain it might be lifter tick. U might need new lifters or sometimes just add a lil more oil and the problem is solved.
All vehicles will tick when first started, due to the fact of gravity, oil will fall out of the motor and back into the pan, now this depends for how long the car sits, such as overnite, or maybe as soon as a few hours, my 04 ex ticks faintly but thats most likely the valvtrain rotating inside the motor, hondas are relieable not sound proof, lol. But like the others said, if its a metal on metal sound get it checked out, and the peddle vibrates i had a car that did that, no big deal, its just disturbance to the wire when it may be touching something it is not supposed to it will pick up vibrations.
The sound does not change no matter if it is cold or hot. But when it is cold it does have a slight whistling sound as well probably something different. To me it does not sound like a metal on metal sound. and it sounds like it is comming from right over the injectors sooo maybe thats what it is.
