not that i really need to drop weight on the bike (though i could stand to lose 10 lbs), but i was thinking about ways to get the weight off and came up w/ just a few ideas, which are already done, at great cost.
but hey, every other ht forum has 20 weight reduction threads, so may as well make one in /26.
anyway so far i've thought of:
wheel$
520 convo
removed headlight/lights (for track bikes)
CF bits which probably save you mere grams
removed hugger
what i'd like to see/fab myself:
CF/Al subframe
CF triple tree/clip ons
CF gas tank (resin + gasoline = lose?, guess it depends on the resin.)
CF tires (ok jk)

no matter how much i like to mod stuff i half to admit that spending a ton of money to drop 10 lbs is kinda dumb. even if it was 20 or even 30 lbs, you would get more out of your money spending it on track days.

I agree. I think that most riders (unfortunately including myself) aren't quite up to par to take advantage of the current available technology's full potential to warrant any form of performance enhancing modifications.

I say if you have the money - buy what you want. If it makes you more comfortable on the bike - go for it. Yamaha isn't looking at any of us to decide who will replace Rossi in a couple of years so have some fun with your bike.

not that i'm riding it to its full potential, but the F4i in track form (basically with a bunch of **** removed) rides much different bike than its streetable self. not sure if it's a better bike, per se, but it's interesting.
People with CF tanks say that it take a lot of the weight off the top off the bike = easier side to side transitions. If I had money, I'd do CF/composite tank, aftermarket wheels, and Ti exhaust.
Replace your stock seat with a thin foam piece.
Remove all your smog crap.
Remove your horn.
Remove blinker and headlight controls from clipon.
Remove stock dash and replace with only a tach.

I fully agree. With my next statement, I'm not referring to the dude who started this thread at all. I think a lot of the new riders dive into the whole bike modification right off the bat before even properly learning how to use what they have. You can be the blingking but it's useless if you couldn't use the stock bike well enough.

A 7ft. **** is not bling, it's a necessity in life.
