this might be a dumb question but would a 215/40/17 have the smaller size side wall as a 205/40/17, or will a 215 just be a wider tire? thanks im just dumb

 

the first number in tire designation is the width of the tire in milimeters. the second number is the height of the sidewall (not sure if it is a ratio, or measurement). the last number is the size of the rim it will fit on in inches.

so 215/40 17 will be a wider tire than 205/40 17.

 

i think the second one is a ratio as opposed to the width. not 100% sure tho someone help out if u can.
