Default buying a hatch, please give me some advices

Hey all, I am looking for civic hatch, there are two car near my area. 1999 black 5speed with 182000miles. 1996 silver 5speed with 156000miles. the dealer is asking $4400 for the black one and $3200 for the silver one. Both body is in good shap and so is the interior. I really like the black one, but 182000 miles is a lot of miles. I know Honda make gooe reliable engine but who knows how long is the engine going to run. do you guys think is it worth to spend $4400 on a car with that much mileage? what maintenance should be done if I bought that car? thanks.

is the car going to be a basic dd, or are you going to mod it? the engine should still be pretty good, and if you need to swap it, you have lots of cheap/easy options. $4400 is just a touch high, see if you can talk him down $500 or so.

Wow, thanks for the fast reply. I want it to be daily driver for like 2~3 years until I save engogt money to do the engine swap. I used to drive a 1993 240sx, becuase the car is kind of old, some of interiors or whatever those are were loosing, everytime I pass speed pump or rough road, you can hear lots of loosing parts were sharking and annoying sounds were everywhere.... I just dont want that. What mainterance should I do if I bough thise car? thanks.

shouldn't take that long... unless you're going b,h,f,k series... you can get a complete d swap for 500-800 bucks...

gl with he build and welcome to h-t

edit: if you get it just do a tune up... (i.e. flush all fluids, new plugs, new plug wires, new belts) and other misc things
